When to tell family?

I got my BFP on Wednesday and we only told my mom and dad. Christmas would be a fun time to tell DH's parents and the rest of our families (Aunts, Uncles, etc.). Is it too early to tell them? At this point we wouldn't tell friends yet, just family.

If we could secretly tell DH's parents I would but I want to tell them in person and Christmas is the next time we will see them and that's going to be a hard secret to keep in, especially for my MIL.

What do you think?

I would tell them at Christmas. Anytime you tell them it would be exciting, but Christmas adds that extra bit of excitement. I wish I could have told my family for Christmas Chat Icon I say go for it!!!

Re: When to tell family?

I would only tell your immediate family at christmas, ie:DH's family and/or if you have brothers or sisters. everyone is differernt about this, and it depends on how close you are with aunts/uncles but i personally would not want ALL those people knowing that early on. Good luck and congrats!

Re: When to tell family?

When I got pregnant with DS we told everyone like the week I got a BFP...this time around if we are lucky enough to get another BRP (hopefully January 1st Chat Icon ) I might wait a little while.

When I told everyone right away with DS everyone had weird reactions..."it's too early" "what if you miscarry", etc. I dont feel like listening to that all over again b/c than it made me think negatively that something would happen and fortunately nothing did.

First off: CONGRATULATIONS!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Second: I would just tell your DH's parents and yours only to keep them in the loop... this way they can be there to share in the moments and be there for ANYthing that goes on during the first few months.

I would tell his parents only. Just because you are soo early.
Then both sets of parents know.

IMO, Aunt & Uncles can wait another month or two to find out. Until after doctor's appt, etc.

Re: When to tell family?

Congrats! I just got a BFP on Friday too.
We will be with DH's family on Christmas Eve so we'll tell them then (its just his immediate family). Then, on Christmas day, we're going to be with my family. We're going early to tell my parents and siblings before the extended family gets there. We haven't decided yet if we're going to tell the extended family. I'm a little nervous to spill the beans.

Good luck!

Re: When to tell family?

I would go for it, and trust me, I learned from experience with my inlaws when I was pregnant with DS that they WON'T keep their mouths shut, even if you ask them to. I begged my MIL not to tell anyone until after the first Dr. appointment. DH and I went away to visit friends the day after we told them. By the time we came home, 4 days later, she had already told the whole family. Chat Icon Not only was I mad that she didn't keeo her mouth shut, but she also took away the excitment of telling people from me and DH. So I would totally tell the whole family at Xmas, when else would you have the chance to tell everyone at once and see all of their excitement first hand.

Re: When to tell family?

I say to tell everyone on christmas -- here's my reasonning:

we're in the process of telling everyone now and it seems like (even though we told people NOT to tell anyone else) everyone is accidentally letting it slip, so everyone else is sort of finding out anyway. Instead of having them all find out second-hand via a slip-up, it may be better to just tell everyone at once in a special way at Christmas.

Re: When to tell family?

Congratulations!

When pregnant with DD, we told everyone right away at Christmas. Out families celebrated together that year, so it was the perfect opportunity. If something had happened, these are the same people I would have wanted for support so I see no problem telling.

We this recent pregnancy, we didn't tell many people right away, we were waiting to tell in person over Thanksgiving. By Thanksgiving, we had a different story to share, but I was thankful for the support.
