Question for special ed teachers
I noticed one of my students has an annual review (IEP due) over the summer!
Doe that mean that I need to go to school during the summer for an IEP meeting? Or will it be done in June?

Re: Question for special ed teachers
it depends on the district. Most try to get it done during the school. it's it's up in say July or August, they will do it in June. most districts want to get them done before the summer because you have to decide whether or not the kid is going to get summer services and they want to avoid having to pay you and others on the team to come in for a CSE. I would make sure your piece of the IEP (your goals, etc.) is done BEFORE the summer.
IN my district, we basically do them all in April and May regardless of the due date because the school year is just about over and so you basically know there will be no major changes in their functioning in a month so you can safely recommend a program for the summer and the following school year.
Does this help?

Re: Question for special ed teachers
Yes, thanks.
I am afraid to ask in my school because I don't want them to say yes, that I do need to come in over the summer. I mean, what if I want to go away with DH?!? I will make sure that it's done before the summer and suggest that the meeting is held then.
Thanks for your info!

Re: Question for special ed teachers
Any IEPS due for review over the summer are done before the end of the school year. There is nothing wrong with having an annual review early.....the big problems are when they are late because then you are out of compliance. I can't imagine they would make you come in over the summer.

Re: Question for special ed teachers
In my district there are CSEs over the summer sometimes due to new entrants to the district or cancellations during the school year. Sometimes if time runs out for annual review meetings during the school year then the meeting is held during the summer. The teachers get invited to CSEs over the summer if you volunteer to be invited and of course they get paid.
