what's good for a pounding headache besides otc stuff?
I have a pounding headache and took something about 45 minutes ago and probably can't for a while. Anything non medicinal that works?

try caffeine
or my mom always said - just slam your hand in the car door... it won't make your headache go away, but you will be in so much pain, you will just forget about the headache

If tylenol and caffeine fail, i use lots and lots of water, and a nap in a dark room.

Treating Your Own Headaches
You don't necessarily need a doctor's prescription to treat your headaches. Here are some ways you can find relief, without medication:
* Apply an ice pack to the painful area of your head. Try placing it on your forehead, temples, or the back of your neck.
* Take a warm bath or shower; take a nap; or take a walk.
* Ask someone to rub your neck and back, or treat yourself to a massage.
* Apply gentle, steady rotating pressure to the painful area of your head with your index finger and/or thumb. Maintain pressure for 7-15 seconds, then release. Repeat as needed.
* Rest, sit, or lie quietly in a low-lit room. Close your eyes and try to release the tension in your back, neck, and shoulders.
* If you have excessive muscle contractions in the neck, physical therapy exercises performed daily are often helpful.

Thank you! The kids go to bed early so i will do the quiet dark room as soon as I can.

I know you said besides OTC, but have you tried excedrin, I hear it's amazing.
But if you really do not want to take OTC then the ice pack thing works well.

Caffeine works wonders! I also find taking a cat nap or a bath eases the pain.

As far as for when you can use OTC again: Excedrin has caffeine that's why it works so well.

Excedrin works so well b/c each pill has the amount of caffeine in it that a cup of coffee has... It's my personal drug of choice!

I agree... almost every headache I ever had was cured by drinking a liter of water.....

I ended up falling asleep super early friday and woke up with out the headache saturday, yay! I don't know if it's the dry heat in my house but lately I have been getting these often.
