Im having my baby on thursday and just want to make sure he doesnt slip through the cracks with peds. office. Should my DH call or does the hosp call to notify them of his arrival. Also Did you have hosp give the vit K and Hep B shot or did you hold off untill your first appt. I feel like there is so much i need to do and i cant keep it straight. TIA

If I remember correctly, they just ask you at the hospital who your ped is and then someone from the office (Dr. Meckes did for us) checks on baby. I didn't have him give DS the Hep B shot in the hospital b/c he was in the NICU and we agreed it was too much at that time - so we held off until a visit after he was home.

Re: BTDT moms: Seaford Pediatrics..
They asked me when I was in labor and then a dr. was going to come see him. (the hospital calls them)
My DS was in the NICU the whole time, so the NICU dr.'s were taking care of him. Dr. Meckes came to my room just to check-in but he didn't actually see/exam DS til the day after he came home from the hospital.
They gave him the Vit K right after he was born and he also got the Hep B in the hospital

CONGRAGULATIONS I hope all is well with you. What I remember about the hospital is based on your ped they will give hep B Vit K is almost always given. Now I am writing this @ 4am so don't quote me but tehy will ask who is your peditrician and will contact them from winthrop. Also you can and I did call my peditrican and they knew that I was going in for a induction which became a section so again CONGRATS.

Re: BTDT moms: Seaford Pediatrics..
I delivered at Good Sam in West Islip, so they don't have priveledges there. Plus DS was in the NICU for 3 days anyway.
We held off on the Hep B shot for 6 weeks. (then I actually decided to not give him any further ones after that for a while, but that's besides the point).
The Vitamn K shot....that's for blood clotting, so I actaully think that's a non declinable one. It's a necessity and not an option......as far as I know.
