Nightmares?

Ever since my father passed away I can't sleep. I toss and turn all night and have the worst nightmares imaginable, all night long.

Most of the time, they involve him - I'll discover him alive, will be completely thrilled, and then out of nowhere he'll become severely disabled or deathly sick, and I'll have to relive the last few months over and over again, every night.

Is this normal? I am trying to deal with my feelings as best I can - I cry a lot, and try to talk about him a lot, to get it out, but I guess there's a lot still inside my head I haven't dealt with yet Chat Icon

Re: Nightmares?

yes- this is normal

I went thru it with my Mom, and now again

I took a xanax last night and it was the only way I was able to sleep...I don't want to have to rely on anything to sleep- but I have been having nightmares all week

If you don't mind my asking, how long did it last when your mother passed? Chat Icon

Re: Nightmares?

When my Dad passed a way, the one reoccurring dream was that he was alive and faked his own death. I was soooo happy to see him, but soooo angry at him for putting us through the pain. One that I remember more vividily was asking how he could put his grandchildren through the pain.

It will be a year next month that my Dad passed a way. I haven't had those dreams in a while. But, I never nor do I feel anger towards him. I never thought : How could you do this to us?

I have had several "good" dreams with him too. Most of the time, in the middle of the dream I will wake up and get mad. Because I feel like it's a way for my dad to visit me ( the good dreams).

I had a very similiar dream after my mom died. I ran into her in another town in a Kmart. And she told me she faked her death because she was in love with another man and though it would be easier for my dad to think she was dead vs go through a divorce. I was so happy to see her and then so mad at her for putting my dad and my siblings through all this grieve and she just really did not care and did not care if she ever saw any of us again.

It was horrible and luckily this one was not recurring. I woke up sobbing and sobbing. My poor DH.

It will be 2 years this month that my mom passed. I miss her sooo much.

wow I had the same dreams- reccurring about my mom faking her own death, even to the point in detail about how she pulled it off, it was scary and happened for about 2-3 yrs.

I hate to tell you, but after 12 years, I still have dreams about it- that I found out he has been alive all this time. Although he doesn't get sick, its just such a feeling of sadness when I wake up from it because (1) in the dream I'm sad I missed the last 12 years with him and (2) I wake up and its not true.Chat Icon

Re: Nightmares?

me too, I lost my Dad almost 7 years ago. I always have a recurring dream that he is alive - but still sick- and I have this horrible feeling that I have to go through losing him again.
