swing & bouncer seat both necessary?

did you guys register for both a swing and a bouncy seat? Just wondering, I don't want to fill my house with unnecessary things.

i didn't because a friend is giving us hers...BUT - yes, GET BOTH.

you have no way of knowing which your child will like...

for my friend giving me hers....

son A - hated the bouncer, but LIVED in the swing
son B - hated the swing, but LIVED in the bouncer...

I didn't either until she told me - each item was only used by one kid! I asked how that's possible and she told me they were interesting...and explained the whole thing...

Re: swing & bouncer seat both necessary?

Definitely need both!!! My DD sat in the bouncer seat to chill out, feed her, etc. Swing is better for relaxing her/naps, etc.

I used the bouncer seat all the time and the swing less but definitely used both all the time!!!

Graco makes a swing that has a removable seat that's a bouncer.

Re: swing & bouncer seat both necessary?

I'd get both. For us, they serve different purposes. I can take the bouncer seat in the bathroom with me and keep an eye on DS while I shower. He doesn't last very long in it before he starts crying, but he'd rather be in the bouncer than the crib. DS likes the swing and will nap in it once per day.

totally agree, your child might like one but not the other.

but even if your child likes both (mine did), the swing isn't portable whereas the bouncy seat is. this is CRUCIAL. we put DS in the bouncy at the table while we were eating, for example. and the bouncy was an absolute LIFESAVER when one of us was home alone and needed to shower. i actually used the bouncy for this purpose until DS was like 6 months old... when one day he flipped over in it and started crawling around with it on his back, like a turtle!! All of my Mommy friends/family said I needed both - It was one of the few things everyone agreed on when I was asking for opinions re: registry stuff

Re: swing & bouncer seat both necessary?

I'd register for both because as it was already said, you don't know what the baby will like. My DS hated the swing, loved the bouncer.

I also took the bouncer to other people's houses when we took the baby out or if someone was babysitting. I also used it to feed him cereal before he was big enough for the highchair.
