Vacation without baby at 3 mos?
I'm due in April with my first and a bachelorette party for one of my best friends is happening in July. Am I crazy for considering going and leaving a 3-4 month old with my parents? (DH will be local but doing bachelor party stuff).

I wonder the same thing... sometime this summer is usually when DH and I would go on a vacation. Its not leaving the baby with grandparents for me but I wonder how it will impact my BF schedule.

I personally don't think I'd be able to go away and leave a baby home at that age.

OMG by that time you will want to RUN AWAY at the first given opportunity .
It is your parents after all , not a homeless bum watching your child. There is NO ONE Safer than your parents. They raised you after all.
Trust me, by that time, you will jump at the first offer to spend time alone away from infant.
i am going on 8 months without having a SINGLE NIGHT alone yet with myself or hubby. You have no idea how lucky you are to have local grandparents.

Re: Vacation without baby at 3 mos?
I never realized how hard it would be to leave my child...
I had a whole trip planned to go to Vegas for when DS was 8-9 months... we ended up going to Beaches in Jamaica(family resort)....
PS- he is going to be 4 this year- we have never left him...

Re: Vacation without baby at 3 mos?
i would totally still go! it's probably just for a weekend and it will be YOUR parents watching the baby. i would go in a heartbat... i would trust my mother more than anything, plus by that point, a little break would probably be most needed!

Re: Vacation without baby at 3 mos?
Before DD I would have said yes go away - but you never know how you will feel. I still cannot leave her for even a night. I know plenty of others who are able to, and I was surprised that I would feel this way. DH went solo to a friends wedding when she was 7 mos. bc of this.

Re: Vacation without baby at 3 mos?
I know I'm really lucky to have my parents close by (plus parents who are chomping at the bit for this baby to come).
It will be for a weekend. And part of me knows that a weekend away may be just what I need by that point, but I know once I have a baby it's not supposed to be all about me. DH is totally on board with me going, which is great, I just wish I could predict how I'll feel in a few months. I feel like I'll be more traumatized that then the baby will by me going. But I also don't want to look back in a year or 2 and think it would not have been a big deal to go and would have missed on some girl time with my friends.

Honestly, I would not be able to leave my baby at that age. I am sure your friend will understand.

Re: Vacation without baby at 3 mos?
DH and I went away when DD#1 was 7 months old. I initially DIDN'T want to go, but we'd already booked. I really enjoyed myself once we got there though- but missed her like crazy.
That said- if you are planning on BFing (you didn't say), at 3 months the baby is still eating ALOT and it woud be really difficult to work out pumping enough to keep up your supply.
My second is currently almost 4 months old, and honestly I wouldn't be able to leave her. BUT I am EBFing and she's still eating every 3 hours (even at night )

No way I could do it. My DS is 3 months old now and he's my second and I have hard time leaving him to go to dinner and a movie with DH let alone go out of town.

Re: Vacation without baby at 3 mos?
Can I throw something out there? Can you back out if you decide you don't want to leave the baby? Yes you CAN do it - but once the baby arrives you might not feel that you are ready to do it - but only time and your personal feelings will tell. For me - DH and I did lots of dinner's without our DD to get out - but there is no way at that time I felt okay leaving her overnight. I have lots of friends who felt that way too - and others who couldn't wait to get away. It is easy to say how you will feel now before the baby comes but you might feel differently when the time comes. If you think you want to go I would say book it - but maybe take insurance out or make sure you can cancel if you don't feel the urge to go once the time comes.

Re: Vacation without baby at 3 mos?
i think it would be ok- as long as 1. the grandparents are really good with the baby 2- dh is only away for 1 night & local(so if anything happens he can run home to your parents house)

sorry, i do not agree... DH and i are going away, just overnight to AC, for the first time when DS will be 6/5 months old. i KNOW we need it but i am going to miss him like CRAZY. plus i am doing it more for DH than me (it was his birthday gift).
now don't get me wrong - you're not a bad person for thinking about going!! and if you want to, and your parents will watch your DC, then definitely go. i just wouldn't underestimate how hard it will be for you.

It would be hard, but you could do it. If you planned far enough in advance, you could probably have enough of a frozen supply to get DC through the weekend. However, in order to maintain your supply, you'd probably have to pump every 3 hours or so during the vacation.
I personally don't think I could leave DS to go on vacation b/c of the BFing stuff. Although I completely trust my parents to take care of him, I'd also miss him a lot. I might be able to do a night away, but I don't think I could do much more than that at such a young age.
