How do you know you are ready....
to take a mental health day?!?!
I haven't taken ANY days yet THIS ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR! I am thinking that my breaking point is close. How do you ladies decide when it's time to take a day? (and, I don't mean to cause any controversy for those who don't believe in taking "mental health" days, so please kindly don't respond, rather than start conflict! TIA)

If you need it, take it! Everyone needs one and it is better to take it then to go to work and be grumpy!

Thanks, it's just I ALWAYS feel like I need it!! I have tried to steer clear of taking those days over the winter when it was so cold out. We are supposed to get some nice weather this week so I'm thinking it will be a nice opportunity to get out and relax!
But, like I said, I always think I could use a day!!!

Re: How do you know you are ready....
Personally I believe in taking those days (at least a few a year)... that's what they're there for... and everybody needs one once in a while. I think it's better to take a day here & there to avoid burnout, than to keep showing up, wearing yourself out & not being able to be efficient.
Usually it's one of two things that sets it off for me (hope this makes sense).......
Either it's been building up for a while, kids getting on my nerves consistently for a while, long stretch without a break, and I can just feel a day coming, & then just decide, okay this particular week I'm taking a day to refresh & renew......
or I have a horrible day & leave work feeling like crap, or can't get enough work done in time & feel overwhelmed, or am just disgusted/ frustrated either right before bed or in the morning, have a meltdown & wind up calling in to get myself back some mental stability (this kind of thing happened A LOT my first year... not so much anymore).

You sound like your ready. I'd take it in a new york minute. It's no secret teachers & teacher assistants take them. When you do take it, I hope it reenergizes you !

Thanks!! This does happen to be my first year, and I CAN'T BELIEVE I haven't taken a day yet! I plan to take a day in the next 2 weeks, it's just since it's been a long time coming, I want to plan it out well- I don't know if I should spend it in bed the ENTIRE DAY or shopping

Thanks, I hope so too!! My concern is that when I return back the following day, I will be just as stressed.
Like, after the week long breaks, I return back feeling like even the week wasn't enough And people say teachers get too many vacations It's still not enough for me!!!

Take a day! Honestly pick a day where the weather is nice and enjoy yourself. Everybody needs a Ferris Bueller day here and there!

I was a big fan of taking Friday's or Monday's off. I really didn't care what anyone thought. I knew what was on my plate and what I could and could not handle. At this point I say you've earned the day off for not taking ONE day off. Kudos to you !
