I've been avoiding it too. But I gave in and had tuna salad on a bagel yesterday..... It was sooo freakin good. I'm still thinking about it.
They used to say you had to avoid seafood completely, but they eased up on that ruling. Now it's in moderation like everything else.

Does it matter what type of tuna it is? like is there a difference between albacore and chunk light or solid? i am dying to have some tuna and macaroni and cheese!

I think it's chunk light that has less mercury than white albacore? I'm not positive but I know you can have tuna in moderation. I allowed myself a tuna melt from Bagel Boss once a month after my first trimester. So yummy! LOL

My Dr said it was fine in moderation. So you can't have a tuna sanwich everyday, but once or twice a week is fine.
I had one last week! Made it w/ apples, dried cranberries, mayo, celery, and onion....YUM! I think I just put myself in the mood for one

Like the OP said...I believe the chunk white is much better than Albacore for the mercury factor.

I am going to try not to eat it.
I know people say it's safe...and I am not really big on giving up anything that my forebearers ate to great natal success, but the levels of mercury, which are far greater than they were when my mom was preggo with me, are scary.
I want to see if maybe I can substitute tuna for canned salmon, if i get the hankering for a tuna sandwich.
or perhaps seafood salad or white fish.
If I can't find a suitable replacement and I lose my mind with desire, I MIGHT cave. but I am trying not to.
I will eat sushi though. just again, not the tuna.
