question about painters tape

Hey everyone - our painting is halfway finished now! We now have the living room, hallway, and bathroom completley painted and it looks amazing!!! I'll post pics once I get them up - but my question is for those who did their own painting. We taped up the trim, walls, etc in order to cut down on the touch ups - but when we pulled the tape up, the paint still got through! When we taped, it was as flush as we could get it, so I'm not sure if this is a mistake we made, or if it's something that happens to everyone when taping? We used a medium-level adhesive tape from 3M, guaranteed removal for up to 14 days. Everything looks wonderful, I'm just a little annoyed at all that time spent taping, only to have to go back anyways for touchups.... AND I'm a perfectionist, so all I keep seeing now are these tiny spots that the tape missed! So I was just curious about everyone else's experiences with this. thanks!! Chat Icon

Re: question about painters tape

I probably should have mentioned that whoever did the molding in our house did a very bad job of it, bc it's very uneven where the wall meets the wood trim in many parts - these were the main problem areas with the tape. But if we smoothed it out, shouldn't that have prevented any leaks? It just seemed wierd... We're noticing all these quirks about our house now that we've paid such close attention while painting!
