Ectopic PG and Methotrexate experience?
Just wondering if anyone had any experience with methotrexate therapy for ectopic pregnancy? An ectopic was found last week (monday) and I was given a dose of methotrexate to dissolve the embryo (in my fallopian tube - originally thought to be on my ovary)... but after a week, my betas continued to rise. I was just given a second treatment last night.
Has anyone had to have two treatments of methotrexate? Or any treatments for an ectopic??
I'm very concerned about the long term effects of the chemical...

Re: Ectopic PG and Methotrexate experience?
I had an ectopic last year. I also had the methotrexate shot. I did only have one dose. My #'s rose the first week and then they started to drop. It took about 2 1/2 months for my #'s to drop to zero.
I really didn't have any side effects to the shots, but I know others have.
If you have questions, please feel free to FM me
Sorry you are going through this

Re: Ectopic PG and Methotrexate experience?
I had a heterotopic pregnancy in February - and had to take two doses of methotrexate. After the first shot my numbers increased but after the second they went down...pretty quickly which caught us off guard.
From all the research that I have done there are no long term effects documented with such a short term use and so far it seems that this particular use of the drug is not linked to any issues with infertility.
Did your doctor warn you not to take any pain relievers other than tylenol regular strength? Also no prenatals (no additional folate), no alcohol and no sex until you get below 100 or your doctor clears you for each of these things.
The drug made me tired but fortunately I did not have nausea which is possible.
Please feel free to fm if you have any questions. I am very sorry for your loss.
ETA: also talk to your doctor about when you can TTC if you are looking to try again soon. My doctor told me about 2 or 3 months for the drug to clear - you will need to build up folate since this drug pretty much eliminates it and it's crucial for a healthy pregnancy.

I had one dose of Methotrexate and had no issues with the drug (or an long term effects). I remember having to get my numbers checked every 2-3 days to make sure the numbers were going down and was told to NOT take any prenatals.

I had an Methotrexate shot given to me last Thursday. I'm still waiting for my numbers to stop rising. I went this morning for more blood work. Hopefully another shot is not needed.
