Do you give you infant vitamins?
The ped said at their 3 month appointment today to start giving them tri-vi-sol vitamins. I was just looking them up online and found a whole bunch of things saying babies get all the vitamins they need from breast milk. I didn/t think to ask why they would need vitamins.

Re: Do you give you infant vitamins?
Babies get the vitamins they need from breast milk only if you have the proper balance on vitamins in your body. My DD went on baby vitamins at about 3 months because she wasn't getting the proper vitamins before that.

DS started vitamins at 3 months too. I also BF. Never even thought to ask. Now at almost 6 months the Dr. gave us a prescription for vitamins that contain flouride.

Re: Do you give you infant vitamins?
Our pediatrician recommended giving vitamins right away although I've heard other moms of BF babies were told to start giving vitamins around 6 months. DS hates it. I don't give it to him every day , but there seems to be conflicting opinions about whether BF babies really need additional vitamins.

Samantha has been on this since around 3 weeks. I read somewhere that it;s recommended for bf babies to be on tri-vi-sol.

Re: Do you give you infant vitamins?
yes, my ped recommends that if you EBF or MOSTLY BF (no more than 12oz of formula a day), the baby should be on vitamins

Re: Do you give you infant vitamins?
we started at 6 months. im really bad at giving them to DD tho, she probably only gets them 3-4 times a week but i figure some is better then none.

Re: Do you give you infant vitamins?
Yes, I EBF DS for several months and he was on vitamins. I believe because of the vitamin D lacking.

Athan started taking tri-vi-sol at 3 weeks as well and he was BF. We were told to do so because BM lacks vitamin D.

Re: Do you give you infant vitamins?
DS was on tri-vi-sol when he was a few weeks while I BF. After that, at 6 months, he started poly-vi-sol with flouride. The tri-vi-sol didn't stink as bad as the poly-vi-sol, and DS actually enjoyed taking those. The poly ones, not so much.

Re: Do you give you infant vitamins?
My BF baby has been on tri-vol-sol since about 3 weeks. Now she's on a poly prescription vitamin. As I understood it, the supplements are necessary to ensure that DC gets vitamins even if Mom doesn't have a balanced diet.
