Level II with full bladder

Anyone know the reason for this?

My OB's office left a message for my Level II tomorrow to have a full bladder. I am thinking of calling them to find out why but figured I would ask the knowledgable LIF ladies Chat Icon

Re: Level II with full bladder

Weird, I didn't have to have a full bladder for my level 2. I forgot the reasoning for a full bladder durning a sono. I've had sonos done before I was PG and needed a full bladder but so far(thank god) I haven't. Good luck with that. I have to pee every 2 seconds. Having a full bladder wouldn't go over well with me Chat Icon

P.S- I'm so excited for you tomorrow!!!!!! Can not wait to hear if its a Chat Icon or Chat Icon!!!!!!!

Re: Level II with full bladder

When I went to the dr last night for a check up I used the bathroom before I went in. His exact words were "the sono would have been much clearer on a full bladder, but this is okay"

Re: Level II with full bladder

having a full bladder pushes the baby up, allowing them to get clearer pics (b/c of a better angle).

Re: Level II with full bladder

I know this is not exactly the same but when i went for the 12wk sono I had a full bladder only b/c I ate lunch right before going to the md, I asked the sono tech if i could go to the bathroom and she said hold off b/c then the baby might change position, so when she was taking pictures she said baby is in perfect position...she let me go to the bathroom and looked again and baby was all over the place...so i guess when you have a full bladder there is less room for the baby to move and pics are easier to take.

ETA: I guess you could always go in with a full bladder and if you don't need it then you could use the bathroom before.

Re: Level II with full bladder

They told me to have something to drink before the appointment because they can get better pictures with something in your bladder. During the Level 2 if bby doesn't move around much they might have you go pee and come back because baby ususally starts moving around after you pee. That's what they told me anyway.

Re: Level II with full bladder

I had my Level II on Tuesday, and I asked the technician if she wanted me to use the bathroom first.

Her answer is similar to what other posters have said. That once you void your bladder, the baby can move around more and change positions.

She got good measurments, but wasn't able to get good profile pictures for us, so she had me use the bathroom toward the end of the test.

Sure enough, the baby moved, but in a worse way! The doctor had to come in and take the pictures for me a few mintues later.

Good Luck tomorrow!!! It's very exciting to see the baby again and all of his/her parts! Chat Icon

Re: Level II with full bladder

That's weird... I'm the opposite. For every sono I have to pee in the cup b4 getting the sono so it's always empty.

Re: Level II with full bladder

I was told to have a full bladder for my Levell II but then when I got there the tech said it was TOO full! so she asked me to use the bathroom but don't go all the way...stop in the middle! I was like Chat Icon you can't tell a pregnant lady to stop in the middle of peeing!

I never heard that before...I would have died holding it for the Level II. It takes awhile that sono.

Re: Level II with full bladder

They told me to come in with a full bladder and then realized they couldn't see anything because my bladder was TOO full Chat Icon So they let me go to the bathroom (oh sweet relief!) and then they did my Level II.
