First Walking Shoes
Hi All!! Did you buy those classic stride-rite shoes for your baby for their first shoes? My son is currently 9 1/2 months old and is starting to crawl. I went to Target the other day and bought him regular baby shoes in a size three. The reason I am asking is because my in-laws insist that he needs these stide-rite shoes now and bought him a pair. I guess what really concerns me is how hard these shoes are. I thought that they didn't need these hard shoes until they starting walking. Thank you all in advance for your comments. Jen

Re: First Walking Shoes
I wouldn't use the Stride Rite shoes until he is cruising consistently. I was always told that barefoot is best prior to walking.

Re: First Walking Shoes
Thank you all for your help. Do you recommend robeez or pediped? I see these online, but don't remember seeing these in stores.

Re: First Walking Shoes
Agreed no real shoes until walking...we didnt get DS his first stride rite shoes until he was walking FT.
Anyway you can get robeez type shoes at Target they are much less $$$$.

Re: First Walking Shoes
I kept DD barefoot/socks until she was full on walking. I bought her knock-off Pedi-peds at Target to go pumpking picking b/c it was cold and socks weren't going to cut it b/c she was cruising. Her everyday shoes are from Stride Rite, her dress shoes are from Payless.

Re: First Walking Shoes
DS walked barefoot for the longest time at home. He still does.
I got him a pair of pediped for his 1st shoes. I loved them!

Re: First Walking Shoes
My Ped said to go barefoot or Robeez until DD is walking and not crawling for 2 weeks. I get pressure from family and daycare to get her shoes because they think it will help her walk. I'm listening to my Ped though because all the wonderful mommies on here have said the same thing.

Re: First Walking Shoes
I bought the updated boy version of the white classic shoe. Poor DS looked like he was stuck in concrete when I put them on him . I asked my podiatrist and he said they don't need those "walking" shoes, just something w/ a hard heal. I also read online that those traditional shoes are not really necessary. So I went to the store to return the walking shoes and the salesperson said, and I quote, "podiatrists don't know shoes, your son needs these!" So of course, I felt guilty but returned them anyway. I hope I made the right choice.
