Sorta spinoff to "Friday Q"... What thing/activity did you LOVE as a kid?

What item or activity did you LOVE as a kid? Hopefully, this will be a cheerier walk down memory lane... Chat Icon Chat Icon

I loved my backyard growing up. It was much bigger than my current yard.

Walking to the beach. We were a block away from the beach (and 200+ feet above it!), so I like walking down the block, then down the 150+ steps to the beach.

Snowball fights and making snow igloos

Spending my summers in East Hampton on the beach, on main street, collecting horshoe crabs, etc.

Legos. We used to put up a string from our neighbors tree to a tree in our yard, build lego ships, attach them to the string and let them fly across the yard.

Running through the sprinklers on a hot day. We would follow the entire cycle until my mom was done watering the yard. (Oh, and we had a perfectly good pool)

Well, my flute was my favorite possession in the world. I stole my baby sitter's flute when I was 4 and hid it under my bed. I taught myself to play and then my parents decided to buy me one when they realized what I did. It was hard to find a moment when I wasn't playing it as a kid.Chat Icon

I remember when I lived in Queens and all the kids on the block would play Man Hunt and we would hide in the backyard of all the neighbor's houses and they never cared..

I also remember playing in the back of my neighbor's house down the block bc their property was tremendous and you could get lost in their back yard.

I loved going "camping" in East Hampton with my Dad. We'd get a campsite out there (I forget the name of the park), but we'd spend the entire day out east, going between the Hamptons and Montauk. Then nights were spent by a camp fire. We would catch as many little toads as we could, walk out to a lighthouse off the park beach, etc. We'd go for a week and it was always so much fun.

Playing wiffle ball on the front lawn with homeplate in the driveway. The stump where we used to have a tree was 1st base, we'd use an old mitt for 2nd base, and 3rd base was where the walkway met the grass. I remember the light pole marked the right foul line and the tree marked the left foul line.

Good times. Chat Icon

I grew up with a bunch of kids - we were all around the same age...

I LOVED playing Manhunt and Running Bases.

We would play Manhunt up and down our block - in all the houses yards - we were good kids - just all over the place.

At night - our parents would just YELL for us. I remember hearing our moms' just standing on the porch just yelling our names!!!!!

I loved going to parades!! My family was in a marching band so we would go for the 4th of July or other holidays and watch the parade go by. Of course, I felt EXTRA special when my uncles would wave to ME on the side of the road Chat Icon

Bike rides. My sister and I would go on "adventures".

Play "tag". No comment!!!Chat Icon

Collect plants/flowers I found at my Grandparents' cottage in the country I(I was a City girl!). Press them and dry them and make a collection of "specimens".

Puzzles. I was obsessed with puzzles. The 1500 pieces one.

Knit and saw with my mom and grandmother.

....did we grow up on the same block?? haha

We had a HUGE group of kids growing up in our neighborhood, we'd be gone for hours!!! We played every game possible! They would scream our names for dinner and then when to come back in again at night. We use to get into trouble if we went into someones house and didn't tell them b/c then they'd be calling for us and we couldn't hear them!

I feel like no one does that nowadays Chat Icon

Riding my bike and/or big wheels in the courtyard of our building.

Playing running bases on the beach during the summer

Re: Sorta spinoff to "Friday Q"... What thing/activity did you LOVE as a kid?

So miss the good old days....

Kickball, running bases, my huge sticker book, drawing the MTV logo a million different ways with my friends, roller skating at 2002, bike riding everywhere, chinese jump rope,
Also my neighbor was a florist and used to let us pick flowers from her garden-then we would set up a sell table and sell them to people that drove by, folding pizza boxes to get a free slice, making a huge wooden fort and the most fun was this huge spinning thing we had in the back yard-it had 4 seats and we went round and round for hours!!:)

Oh also- huge tinker toys-they were sooooooo big we could make a house to go in!!Chat Icon

Re: Sorta spinoff to "Friday Q"... What thing/activity did you LOVE as a kid?

My sisters are 12 and 14 years older than me and they were both out of the house by the time I was 5-so I was kind of an only child. I would play lots of make believe games alone or with friends. In kindergarten and first grade I would play communion with mozzarella cheese. I would walk around my front yard , take communion, and walk around again. I was a little disappointed when I made my communion and it didn't taste like cheese!

My friends and I would create menus and make signs for our restaurant. We would serve pretend customers and pretend to make drinks with the liquor my dad had in our basement bar!

ohh! and I used to roller skate to the Grease album in the basement!
