Question about religion and days off?

A little background: I work for a Commercial Real Estate developer. We have a small office of 5 employees so we obviously dont have an HR dept.

Anyway, I work p/t as a bookeeper and my boss' hired a young guy to be an Asst. Property Manager. He started in September and has since taken approx. 14 days off for Jewish holidays. For example, he took off last Thursday and Friday for Passover, as well as Wednesday and Thursday of this week for the end of Passover. My boss' are both Jewish but don't observe the holidays as he does. From what I understand they were aware of how he practices before hiring him and knew he was very observant of the religious holidays.

I heard my boss' talking yesterday and it seems they are not happy with him taking off for all the Jewish holidays.

I am not sure if there is anything in writing but just wondering if by law, they can fire him for observing the religious holidays?

They can't fire him for observing his religion but he should be using/saving his PTO for the holidays.

They can't fire him for observing his holidays - but they do not have to pay him for them either unless he uses his accrued vacation/personal days off.

I had former coworkers who observed the Jewish holidays and they had to use accrued vacation if they wanted those days off.
