my newborn is ALWAYS crying, help plz!

he's 19 days old and if he's awake he's crying....even if he's sleeping he moans.

i thought it maybe gas issues. i've tried:
he's mainly bf so i've cut all dairy and eat bland foods
mylecon gas drops
glycerin suppositories (as per my ped.)
a probiotic (as per my ped.)
burp and bicycle legs all day
pacifier
extra formula (justin case my bm isn't enough)

he's up all night and rocking, shh'ing, bouncer, swing, etc. doesn't get him to sleep or to stop crying.

i'm at a loss. what else can i do? it gets a bit better when i hold him but not much. but running around after my toddler and holding a hysterical infant (all day & night) is getting too much.

help plz!

Re: my newborn is ALWAYS crying, help plz!

could it just be a swaddling issue?

or did you ask your ped if s/he thought it could be acid reflux?

DS simply was never a very good sleeper... at almost 7 mo, he still needs to fall asleep in our arms before he can be transferred into the crib... and when he was a newborn, he would seldom sleep longer than 90 min at a time Chat Icon

The extra formula could be doing a number on his tummy. I know when I began giving 4 oz formula at 7 months (WAAAYYYY older) that DS couldn't handle it and wouldn't poop for weeks at a time. Did you dr say to give it? IS his weight gain okay?

I hope you're feeling alright. When is your surgery scheduled?

This was my DD for the first 3/4 weeks. She wound up needing zantac for reflux and special formula (nutramigen).

She got MUCH better after those switches. each day was better and better and now she is just a happy girl!!!

Have you brought him to a pediatric GI? They may be able to guide you a little better.

talk to your doctor about reflux and colic....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon, coming from someone who has BTDT! Check out Happiest Baby on the Block too. DD literally cried every waking minutes for a while, and working on the reflux part only helped it some but it was still noticeable to me. By 4 months there was some improvement, more around 6 months, reflux better mostly by 7 months.

My nephew had very similar issues. They ended up putting him on similac alimentum and my brother said within a week he was a completely different baby.

Does he sleep near you at night?? That may help. Get a sling for during the day. Are you swaddling tight enough? Hearing your baby cry is soooo hard! Hope it gets better soon.
