No, you can go to your regular doctor. If you have any problems that arise then they would either work in conjuction with a high risk doctor or refer you to one.

In my case, I went to my regular doctor throughtout my pregnancy and then when I got gestational diabetes, I also went to Madonna Perinatal for the rest of my pregnancy. I met with the high risk doctor once and was there for testing twice a week. At the end, the staff at Madonna sent me to the hospital b/c I was getting preeclampsia. The high risk doc called my reg ob and discussed that it was best for me to have a c-section the next morning.

Yes, but like the Previous poster said, its done as an "Add on" ....like Madonna ...Madonna is a high risk center...so the Dr's there monitor your care and report the info back to your regular Dr.

So you keep your Regular OB, just have a bit extra on the side......

Not for all twins but if your twins share a placenta like mine do, you will probably see a high-risk doctor as well because they will monitor you for twin-to-twin transfusion. I see my regular OB every 2 weeks (soon it will be weekly) and I see my high risk doctor once a month.

Not in all cases.

I was advised to switched to a high-risk due to IF issues and my age (over 35) both of which present additional risks.

ETA: My high-risk office had the 3D sono machines in the office. They were equipped to do all of my monitoring in the same office.

The place I went to only saw multiple Moms in their high risk clinic. I moved when I was 32 weeks PG and switched to a regular practice

Many doctors will have you see a high risk as a precaution, so that the doctor knows you just in case down the line you're not being thrown in their lap.
