My school is closed for Swine Flu
I am shocked because we are one of the worst districts in terms on snow days. Yet tomorrow we are off.
A child in a different building may have it he/she is OK!
A little scary actually!

The only saving grace is that there is talk that the state will not make the school make up any missed days that bring you below 180 days.

Re: My school is closed for Swine Flu
I wonder what the criteria is to close the school.
My friend's school in Queens had 180 something kids out with the flu and it's still open!

I have a lot of sick kids- ten out yesterday, six out today and a couple who are still sick but their parents are sending them.
But get this- someone in my school is erasing lots of absences so our numbers look better than they are. This is common practice. But I wonder if this will come back to bite the person who does it because there are three schools in my building. And I think it might look suspicious if attendance is down in the other two schools but not ours. All the facilities are shared. Regardless, I am so annoyed- I have said something about this before too but it keeps happening.

Ummm, that's a little illegal! From what I've been told, attendance forms are legal documents!

Re: My school is closed for Swine Flu
Im sure that many absences are just from parents that are trying to be proactive and not sending there kids as a precaution. does anyone think this may be the case? I know one friend isnt sending his daughter to school all week, by choice, she's fine, but her school is VERY close to the school where the AP passed away, so he's being extra cautious.
I wonder if they take this into account with they say how many kids are "out with the flu" kwim?

Re: My school is closed for Swine Flu
I teach in a large HS in Queens. Tons of kids are out sick and tons are home because they are afraid of getting sick. We've had confirmed swine flu cases, but not sure of the exact number. We're still open, though. I'll be shocked if we close.

Yup, same story here. My school is open and confirmed cases of H1N1 are being swept under the carpet.
It comes down to money. Each day the schools are closed they lose funding(money)! Obviously, money is more important than the health of everyone in the building.
