Sasha's 4 month Check Up-- with a q.
i cannot believe my baby will be 4 months old tomorrow!!
Anyway- she didn't gain as much as she did the previous month-- she now weighs 13lbs, 11 oz, up from 12lbs, 4 oz.
BUT she grew almost 2 inches and is 25 1/4 inches long. She is in the 52nd percentile for weight and 85th for height!
I mentioned the sleep issues to the doc, and she recco'd starting sleep training. I am NOT looking fwd to this. Anyone gave any helpful advice?
She also wants me to wait til 6 months to start solids-- which is fine with me til we sort out the sleep sitch. Don;t need too many new things in the routine at once.
So that's that-- will post 4 month pics tomorrow or Thurs.. my little girl is all growns up. Sorta.

Re: Sasha's 4 month Check Up-- with a q.
out of curiousity, why does the doc want you to wait until 6 mos to start solids? Is it because of her sleeping issue?
DS stopped sleeping through the night as well a few weeks ago and gets up at least twice a night to eat so I was hoping at his 4 mo appt in 2 weeks that he could start solids...I was hoping it would satisfy him more as he drinks 8 oz before bed and still BFs every 2 hours or so and is never satisfied. Did your doc think waiting would help iron out her sleeping patterns?

she said 6 months is her recco in general.
but if she thought that it would help her sleep through the night-- she would be all for it. basically- the waking means they are just more aware and they want you to come in and pick them up, feed/nurse, but they don't NEED to eat. and they need to understand that daytime is for eating and nighttime is for sleeping.

Sleep training as in CIO?
I want to honestly say that she is too young for it, and I say that b/c we failed at 5 months with it. We weren't successful with it until DS was 1 year old.
As for solids, she is BFed, right? I think that the new recomentdation is 6mos, but for BFed babies it has always been 6mos
Sounds like a good appointment

yes-- bot she said b/t 4 and 6 months-- so it;s not like we are starting tonight. basically- her recco is to nip it in the bud before her patterns get worse.
and yes, she is ebf. i will start her on vitamins though.

Is sleep training CIO?
I think the standard is no solids until 6 months for babies that are BF. Still 4 months for FF according to my ped.

I replied in your other post....but I did the sleep training with DS at 3 and 1/2 months and it's the best thing we have done...
I'm not sure but I think it probably gets harder as they get older...

Re: Sasha's 4 month Check Up-- with a q.
There are some really good books I read plus a video that helped us so much with nighttime sleep: the happiest baby on the block on becoming baby wise the baby whisperer healthy sleep habits, happy child and the dr. hull video, I forgot the name of it
My 15 week old sleeps 7-9 hour stretches a night and then sleeps another 4-5 hours after the late night feeding.

Re: Sasha's 4 month Check Up-- with a q.
im not sure what "sleep training" entails, but my dr, and prior experience with my ten year old, tell me that at 4 months of age, and anything over 12lbs they do NOT need to eat (physiologically) at nite anymore, and youre right, they are just more aware, and want to see us again i didnt do CIO persay, but i did start giving her alil longer to "whine" it out.. we did the 3 minutes go in 4 minutes go in 5 minutes go in..if after 5 minutes, she was still awake and crying, we would give in, and pick her up and soothe her back to sleep.. as far as the feedings went..i slowly decreased the amount of minutes i was nursing her, from 5, to 4 to 3 to 2 to 1...i would lessen the amount every 2 nites.. at 4 months old, theyre really not too young to cry for 4-5 minutes. i wouldnt push it past that though
on a side note, i cant believe our babies are 4 and 5 months old!!

Re: Sasha's 4 month Check Up-- with a q.
Since she's still pretty young, I wouldn't think your doctor would want you doing strict CIO just yet. Perhaps just letting her cry for a little while before you go in to soothe her. To teach her how to soothe herself. She's getting to the age where she knows crying = you coming to get her, so she can start crying just to get you to come in. Which can lead to problems in the future. Some babies really take to it, and it's not as difficult as it sounds, others take a little longer to get the hang of it.
