Need a good pair of running sneaks
I'm a beginner runner... and I have some foot and back problems. I want to get myself a good sneaker but I don't have a lot of $$$ to spend. My instinct is to avoid the mall because I don't know if the salespeople there can be too helpful. I've heard of The Runner's Edge in Farmingdale, but they seem like they cater to really serious runners. I'm sticking to the treadmill for now. Any thoughts??

Treadmill or outdoors the most important thing you should have if running is a good pair of sneakers. I know they are but it's one of those things you really need if you gonna do this. When I first started a friend of mine had told me this and instead of listening I went to khols bought a cheap pair of sneakers that said for running and shortly after using them I fractured my heel. Going to the running store to be fitted for the best sneaker for me really helped. LOVE my sneaks. You should really invest in a good pair especially since you have problems with your feet as is. Hope this helped - GL

Runner's edge is good because they will help you find the ideal show for you, but you will pay for it. There shoes are usually pretty pricey.
My suggestion is to hit up Kohls. I always get my sneakers there. They have ADIDAS and ASICS (my preference) for about $35-45, which I do not think is unreasonable. Plus they always have coupons.
Another suggestion is to get an older model of the shoe. My DH has the Mizuno Waverunners ($$) but gets last year's model and saves $. Finishline also has $10 coupons on their website.

Re: Need a good pair of running sneaks
I also bought a pair from Kohls but they are my "oh my sneakers are in the car, wanna run?" sneakers.
I would go to Runners Edge or another shop b/c this is one area that you don't want to cheap out in. The idea of penny wise, pound foolish comes into mind. Start by getting fitted. They will see what kind of shoe you need based on your funning form and your feet.
After, knowing what kind of shoe you need, you could go somewhere else for a pair, but right now, get the right shoe.
There is also a place on NY Ave in Hunt. Village. Super Runners Shop.
Yes, you'll pay more, but this is one time where you should pay more.
