Do you belong to a church or synagogue, or other place of worship? If so, advertise in their bulletin! I know a lot of people have found sitters that way.
Also, what about Pennysaver?
I know neither of these are free, but they are probably cheaper than advertising elsewhere.

I have seen Sittercity.com used alot along with Care.com. This should help you out to get legitimate responses not the BS kind. They are both babysitting or care giving sites.

Word of mouth is probably the best way to get a babysitter, plus that is sort of like a built in reference. I would ask friends for their recommendations. You can also ask around at any religious or other groups to which you belong, or maybe they will let you put up a flyer or something.
