I've departed from Manhattan on Norwegian & Red Hook on Princess and they both went real easy.

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
My parents have gone out of NYC on Princess in February and Norwegian in March...they felt it was a much much smoooother ride in March....at least heading from NY to the FLorida Area.
Parking can get very expensive, so they took a limo in.
When they went in February, my parents said it was very cold & rough/choppy waters...but once they got out twards Florida, it was fine....
Beats paying for airfare!

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
DH & I have departed from NYC twice. One was back in 2002 on Princess going to Bermuda. We found it so much eaiser then travelling to an out of state port. Once you left your house, you were on vacation. Plus there was no need in worrying if your luggage would make it on the ship or not.
That is the main reason we decided to take our HM cruise out of NYC on Norwegian. This was a 10 day cruise. Again, the minute we left our home, we were on vacation. Got to the docks early & embarked the boat. You started to enjoy your vacation within minutes. Also since we came back on Easter Sunday, there was no hassle in getting home. You didn't have to worry about the "trip" home which sometimes can get aggrevating. No deadlines on getting off the boat.
For us, it was the MOST relaxed way to cruise. I don't think we would cruise out of anyplace other then NY now.

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
We went on NCL to Bermuda last summer. It was easy to get to, parked in the lot, and had a great time on the ship.

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
We went on the Carnival Pride leaving NYC to Kings Wharf Bermuda back in 2003, we had an awesome time!! and loved every minute of it, we also got engaged on the cruise, so it was extra special to me If I felt a little sea sick I just shopped on the ship and I was fine. We had a balcony room and it was so relaxing.

We are leaving in 22 days on our cruise out of NY. We have done it 2 other times before and it is great we love it. The only down side is there are only few places to go to.

We went to Bermuda last year. We left from NY and we took Norweigan Dawn, we loved norweigan because it is free style. Bermuda is beautiful we did a 7 days cruise. When we looked for cruises leaving out of NY I came across a great website "Vacations to go.com" Good luck HTH

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
there is a very active message board dedicated to cruises, anything and everything you can think of, each cruise line has their own board, and each cruise has their own roll call thread where you can talk and chat with other people going on that cruise with you.
its called cruise critic
Any questions you have, from which staterooms to stay in, (some are larger than others) to what places to go to on the islands, most of the people on this message board go on 5 or more cruises a year. so they have alot of knowledge!
I cruise out of NJ (bayonne) twice, and had a great experience, it was a celebrity ship as well. we did a bermuda cruise and a carribean

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
We cruised to Bermuda on Celebrity. It departed from Cape Liberty, NJ - which was just over the bridge. Super easy to park and less than an hour from our home. We would definitely do it again!

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
Did a Royal Caribbean Bermuda cruise last May, it left out of Bayonne, NJ (Cape Liberty). It was a super easy drive to Bayonne, took less than 1 hour from Central Nassau & we didn't have to deal w/ NYC traffic. The waters were quite rough going down (esp. when we passed Cape May & Cape Hatteras, NC (sp?), but it was only for a day & then it was smooth.

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
We just got back last Friday on the Carnival Miracle leaving out of NY.
It was BY FAR the easiest thing we've ever done. I don't think I'd ever fly anywhere to cruise again!
Everything went so smooth. We had great weather and the waters were the calmest I've ever sailed.
it was so awesome seeing the NYC skyline as you sail away...passing the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island...can't beat it!

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
We did Carnival to Canada and didn't care for it
I think because it was just so chilly and we couldnt use the pool etc...But I'm sure its great to a warm destination !
I personally preferred Royal Carribean to Carnival, having sailed both though

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
I just got off of the Caribbean Princess which left out of Brooklyn. It was 9 nights and went to Bermuda, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico and Grand Turk. It was one of the best vacations that I have ever been on. It was easy getting there and leaving and the islands we went to were great!

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
We did the Norwegian cruise leaving out of NY to Bermuda- Im not sure what boat they use now but the boat we were on was very small- we were caught in a small storm and you felt the boat rocking back and forth- that was our first cruise ever... 6 cruises later and three companies later, I would have to say that Royal Caribbean was BY FAR my favorite cruise line. We took a 9 night cruise leaving out of Bayonne to several caribbean islands, and it was amazing!!! If they do a bermuda cruise I would DEFINATELY go with them! FM me for any more info!

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
We cruised out of NYC with Holland America (although I don't think they do this one anymore). We did a 10 day cruise to the Carribbean in March and it was fantastic!! No worries about air travel, it was so easy. We had great weather and I can't wait to do it again!

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
We took the Carnival Miracle last year out of NYC to San Juan, St Thomas and Grand Turk. We found the ship to be ridiculously crowded with probably the some of the worst food I have ever eaten. It was pretty convenient to get to the Port but I don't think it was any more convenient that getting to JFK and waiting for a plane. I became incredibly claustrophobic from the consecutive days at sea and felt like I was in the boat more than on land. This may be great for some but wasn't for me. I would need to take a cruise departing from somewhere closer to the ports of call to enjoy a cruise again or go to Bermuda. I would definitely recommend cruising out if NYC depending on what you are looking for.

Re: Cruise - departing from NYC
We did Carnival Miracle out of NYC and had the best time ever!!!! I am not a picky person at all. We had a blast. The room was fantastic, the staff couldn't do enough for us, the food was good (We thought anyway), the ship was very clean, and loved the ports. Having children and being afraid to fly, it was the greatest thing ever to just drive an hr and get on the ship. Best part is if you are VIP you get to cut everyone getting on and off the ship You can bring as much stuff as you want because you don't have to worry about it being weighed.
Do it!! We were going to go on one out of NYC to Bermuda in August but we decided on a family vaca instead.
