IVF Retrieval

Hi Ladies. I am scheduled for retrieval this week and am nervous about it . Can anyone let me know what to expect? Does it hurt after? Thanks so much.

Re: IVF Retrieval

They will put you out for this procedure. You wake up about a half hour later and you're all done. I was able to get up and pee right away and then go home. For about a week afterwards I was really sore in the belly area- just like I did way too many sit-ups.

Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: IVF Retrieval

I think it depends on how many eggs they retrieve. The knocked me out for about 15 min and when I woke up my hubby was in the room and the nurse had put a warm heating pad on my tummy. I laid there for about 20 minutes, then got up and used the bathroom and left. I really had no pain at all. My hubby and I went out to lunch after that and I never had to take any tylenol or anything. But....I am older and they only got 9 eggs from me. I think when you are younger and they are retrieving 20-30 eggs, you might have some discomfort afterwards. Good luck, I am excited for you!

Re: IVF Retrieval

It really wasn't a big deal at all. Personally I was worried about being knocked out and that was a breeze.

Good Luck!

You don't feel anything because you are knocked out. It is an emotional day but it still is manageable.

Re: IVF Retrieval

Well the good part is you are knocked out and have no idea what is going on. I woke up in recovery with some mild cramping they gave me some tyenol.... I am guessing maybe bc they took 24 eggs out of me...LOL Not bad for an old chick..... Laid there for about 1 hr I think, then got up and went home. I just rested when I got home and took it easy the next 2 days until I had to go back for the transfer on day 3. That was quick and painless you just had to lay there flat for 1 hr after procedure and take it easy the next day....I didnt think the procedure was bad at all I expected worse......

Good luck to you.....Keep us posted
