DOE - Tentative Penison agreement

According to the actual agreement the union agrees that in order to fund getting the 2 days before labor day of back, 1.08% in additional funding must be generated effective September 3, 2009. So, 0.50% is coming from the lower TDA rate (8.25% down to 7%) and the 5 extra years to receive retiree insurance (from 10 - 15yrs).

So that leaves 0.58% "to be addressed in the upcoming round of collective bargaining for the successor
agreement to the current agreement which expires October 31, 2009." So basically we are going to have to give back more in our next contract. Given the current economy do we want to start off already owing .58%. I rather go in those 2 days. This does not seem like such a good deal.

Re: DOE - Tentative Penison agreement

i agree. and i dont understand how this was agreed to without a vote/ratification. i wouldve voted "no"- getting those two days back is like getting $300. big deal.

and i think its terrible that we are basically backing the formation of tier 5 with this new agreement.

I was happy when I initially heard- but I should have known that the DOE would not make things nice/easy for us. Apparently the principal's union is fuming because there won't be any PD before the start of school. Many of us (me included) will be going in on Friday anyway because I can't have kids coming into a bare classroom.

Silly me thought that the DOE would push the kids' return back a few days.

I was hoping Randi would be gone before the next contract- she does not really fight for us. She will probably finish it off before she leaves in August. I wish we could get transfers and the right to grieve letters back- I don't see that. And I don't know about other schools, but extended day is a waste of time, IMO. We can't make the kids stay, and most of them don't.

The DOE NEVER does anything out of the kindness of their hearts...EVER!!

As for Randi I don't trust her at all
