At home Therapy/Vs School

Ds ( 2 years old ) has been diagnosed with PDD-NOS he is now receiving at home therapy Aba, Speech and Ot. So my coordinator told me that he can receive those services in a school environment for 2 hrs a day 5 days a a week. I went to a school called Crossroads It looked very good and DS seemed to enjoy it.
So my question is how and why have any of you chosen one over the other.
I like the school environment because I think it is great to have him socailize with other children. And then again I like the at home services because he has all the attention from is therapist.

I asked my therapists about this. They all told me that at home services were best when possible.

my son wasn't PDD... just a severe speech delay. but we had home services for almost 2 years before we swtich to center based. and it was the best thing we could have ever done for him. he thrived in the school environment. he made so much more progress in school. he had a chance to solialize and learn to work with other kids, and had the teachers and aides and therapists there to direct him as needed.

if you have a diagnosis. you should be able to get school as well as some therapy at home to supplement and generalize what he learns in school to the home environement.

Hands down a school if your child has social issues. You can't get that benefit in your home working one on one.

Although, I don't see how they could fit in all those services and still have a structured setting w/ socialization, etc. in just 2 hours a day. That seems like an awfully short day for that amount of services. My son went from 9-2:30 monday through Friday.

for a 2 year old, i would say home. you don't want them to lose the 1:1 attention they get at home, and this way they are not missing the social time and other positives that he/she gets in the school environment. however, as the child gets older (i.e. kindergarten and up), i would recommend keeping the services in school... as a special ed. teacher, myself, the speech therapist and others on the team really collaborate together and that really helps the child overall.

DS goes to school 3x a week for 90 minutes.
On the days hes not in school, the school sends therapists to the home.
Next week, however, he will be getting OT at school (my choice) because at home he already gets PT, Speech, and special instruction..It's a lot!
I put him in school because, to me, it's important for the socialization.
He's not in daycare, so, this was the next best thing I could do for him.

We've had the same in home services for the past year as you and they have worked wonders. DS will be starting pre-school in Sept where he will receive all his services in school....but it's a full day program (9-3) and he'll be 3 in Sept. I would take what you consider the more aggressive approach. The more services they get, the earlier on, the more they will benefit from it IMO

DS will be 2 in August and in Sept he will be going to school 3x a week from 9-11:30am

we chose ACDS more for the social aspect and he will still be getting ALL of his therapies at home. we could choose to have some therapies done in school but then he would have to go full time and i think 2 is still young to go full day

we were told and we agree 100% that home therapy is more one on one then in school and is more intense, but he should still go to school for the social aspect of it.

the Lynx program he will be enrolled in is ABA based but everything done is as a group.

My son goes to a school based program and it was the BEST thing we did. He gets the socialization he would NOT get at home. He does have a twin brother, but it is not the same.
He goes to an EI class in the am, then ABA, then either speech 3 x a week and ot 2 times a week.
he also gets ABA at home on top of that.
