Officially here

I have to admit... I am the WORST person to ever be around if you are grieving....

I have the worst time expressing sympathy, even though I really wish I was better equipped..

And now I am here grieving the loss of my grandma, and I am ill equipped to handle my own grief.

A part of me feels I am being ridiculous grieving for my grandma, who lived to be 85, and didn't suffer.

But she was one of my closest family members. My friend. One of the first people I would call when I had news to share. She was beautiful, athletic, and stylish. She was no "little old grandma" and although she fought cancer all year, she died so quickly. She wasn't suffering, but I lost her....

I keep remembering how she held my hand and told me to "Just be happy"

I am 35 years old. I can't imagine my life without her.

Anyone go through this? I guess I feel that it is a given that we all lose our grandparents at some point, and logic tells me I am lucky to have her as long as I did, and she couldn't live forever. So why am I in so much pain?

Re: Officially here

First off- I am sorry for your loss.

Of course you are in pain, you just lost an important member of your family. I don't think it matters how old a person is, it still pretty much sucks.

You have to give yourself time to grieve and then you can look back on the time you had together and realize how lucky you are.

Just remember to give yourself time.

I'm truly sorry for your loss Liza. I lost 3 grandparents before I was 10 and the last one when I was 25. I still think about them and feel the loss but also love that I have the memories of them forever in my heart. There is no time table on these things and whatever you need to do to cope then that's what the right thing for you is. You know I'm always a FM away.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
