Has anyone gone to the beach with a 4mth old? ** UPDATE***

DH and I would like to go to the beach tomorrow and take DD#1 who will be 2. Unfortunately we have no one to stay with DD#2 who is 4mths old. I have a playpen, tent for her, and will get an umbrella, but am wondering if anyone has ever done this.

It wasn't so bad after all! DD#2 cried only in the car! Once we were there we had to go back to get the carseat and she was under an umbrella and just fine.

Long Beach is nice...but I didn't like that there was a lot of broken glass on the sand. That was strange. Aside from that..had a GREAT time and got a weird tan!

We took DD to the beach when she was about 3 months old.

I used sunscreen Better than a burn according to my ped. Kept her under the umbrella the whole time with a hat on.

She loved it!

DS will be 7 months on the 30th and my friends invited me to go to the beach with them last weekend. They have a 2 1/2 year old. I decided not to go because I didn't want to have to deal with carrying all his crap from who knows where in terms of parking and I also just felt it would be too hot for him, even with shade. We are going to try a spray park for the first time tommorrow and see how that goes. I think once he's walking next year I will be more comfortable in taking him to the beach.

go for it.... my sister has 5. yes, 5! Well, 4 she gave birth to and one is a stepdaughter. Anyway, the oldest is 9 and the youngest is 11 mos. My sister had to keep entertaining all the kids so little Devon went everywhere with them... beach, disney, etc. Get an umbrella, towel, blanket, hat, etc. Maybe keep some water in a bucket by the baby to keep her cool

I have been debating taking my 6 month old. I havent because she gets VERY hot and sweaty so easily and she gets a heat rash. I dont think she would do well at the beach unless it was early am or evening when it wasnt blazing hot.

I have taken both DC when they were 6 weeks (I know not the best choice but we a big beach people). I have one of those cabanas from Babies R Us. They are supposed to be 50 spf or something like that- the kids sleep in it and I have never had a problem with it. Whenever I took them out, I just made sure they were wrapped up well and under an umbrella.

I have May & June babies, and they were both at the beach their first summers.

Go for it! I took my DD to the beach when she was 5 months old. I just made sure she was in the shade and had a hat on the whole time. We had a tent and an umbrella.

DS is 4 months and we attemped yesterday. First it was a pain carrying all his crap and mine! Then we finally picked a spot, I put up his sun dome, lathered him up with sun block, and layed him inside. Within 5 mins he was fussing cause he was hungry. OK so DH gives him a bottle, burps him, and he is still fussing. (mind you, my son hardly ever fusses!!) So DH takes him for a walk. I sit in my chair with my book.
About 10mins later they come back, both are fussing now!! LOL
Needless to say we left!

I went back alone today for some much needed quiet time!!! I hope you have better luck. We are gonna try again before summer is over!

I just spent a week at Myrtle beach and a week at Montauk with my 11 week old. Had him in the tent the whole time with no sunblock.. he did great! when i took him out to feed him i just wrapped him in a towel! Have fun!

We first took our DD to the beach at a little over a month. We have the beach tent and the vents on the the side actually make it pretty chilly in there with the wind blowing.

I've been taking my DD to the beach-keeping her in a tent & under the umbrella the entire time. it's been great!

I have been taking my 8 month old and 21 month old to the beach all summer. There is definitely a lot to bring to the beach whether you have a baby or a toddler. We just put the kids in their double stroller and put all the other things in a shopping cart and wheel both things on to the beach. You should definitely get a shopping cart or one of those other beach things to out your stuff in. It really makes your life much easier.

We are Boaters and DC have been to the Beach since a few months old.

I went with my 2 month old. He slept in the stroller and in the tent. Get an umbrella and a sun hat and keep the baby in the shade. It was nice to lay in the sun for me and he just napped in the shade.

we took DS when he was 2.5 months and we were in ocean city. we kept him out of the sun completely and did not use sunscreen because my ped said absolutely not.

needless to say, he HATED the beach and everything to do with it. luckily the place we were staying at was on the beach so we would just take him back in to our room.

we used a huge umbrella, hat, short sleeve/shorts bathing suit and just kept him covered.
