Anyone work as a teacher's aid, lunch aid for a public school?

Just wondering what the process was to start working for a public school as a teacher's aid/lunch aid/cook etc..??

I heard that there is a longgg waiting list. Is that true? Do you go to the district to fill out an application? Do you do it online? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm on the sub list in my districtas a lunch classroom aide and it took me a very long time to even become a sub. I get called almost every day but the pay is not nearly as good as a full timer. I'm going to do it for another year and see if anything opens up. If not, then i will see what happens next Sept and take it from there. You just send a resume and cover letter to your district and specify that you want to work as a sub. If you want to get your foot in the door thats the way to start for MOST but not all districts. I did work for another district briefly as a regular permanent employee but it was only 2 hours versus the 3 you get for most other distrcits and it was 20 minutes away and i started there laste sept when gas prices were outrageous! Good luck!
I think its easier to work in the actual kitchen section. You can call district office and ask them for the number of whoever is in charge of food services if you want to work there. Most food service depsrtments are run separately from the districts.
If you have any other questions FM me! Good luck
Also keep checking the schools websites. Sometimes jobs open up at the end of the summer when an aide decides not to come back in the fall.
