Anyone not taking classes?
We watched the Laugh and Learn for Breastfeeding, infant care and we are in the middle of the labor and delivery one. Do you think these DVD's are sufficient?

I'm glad you think it's enough. My hospital has a Labor and Delivery class tonight but DH won't be home in time and I feel like I am getting enough info out of the DVD... aside from the fact that I am so sleepy and don't feel like going anywhere right now!

Re: Anyone not taking classes?
I don't think we are going to take the classes. I am not really into the idea of it, think it will make me more nervous.
I am going to get the Laugh and Learn Baby Care and Childbirth from Netflix. I want to do an Infant CPR class and the hospital orientation.

Re: Anyone not taking classes?
We didn't take any lamaze or anything. Just the mandatory c-section class and a 45 minute free newborn care class at Behrs.
We did watch the laugh and learn video and I felt it was informative enough!

Re: Anyone not taking classes?
We just did the delivery DVD and were just fine. I don't even think there was a bfing one when I had DS and I still managed to do it with no problems. I thikn if the classes make you feel more at ease, then go for it, but I'm not really sure they're neccessary.

Re: Anyone not taking classes?
we watched the same dvd's and took the following:
1. newborn care class 2. breastfeeding class 3. dave took a new daddy class
now that i'm a mom - i can say that newborn class was VERY helpful and that's the only one i'd suggest everyone take...so that you can learn things like, how to swaddle, how to bathe the baby properly, etc.. it has come in VERY handily i have to say.

Re: Anyone not taking classes?
i watched the laugh and learn series--that's all. no classes. i'm glad i didn't take them because the nurses at SN and LC taught me everything i needed to know about my baby before i brought him home.
if the classes were free, i would have considered them. but i was not paying money for someone to teach me how to swaddle when the nurses showed me that hours after DS was born.

Re: Anyone not taking classes?
I just had dd in January, and everything is still fresh in my head. I won't be taking classes, going on tour at the hospital, etc., this time around.

Re: Anyone not taking classes?
No hospital, breastfeeding or lamaze classes for us.
I have the dvd's but haven't watched them yet.
We took a tour of the hospital, which was about 30 minutes long.
And we're signed up for an infant and child CPR class in early August. We've both taken an adult and child CPR class before, so hopefully this will be a refresher for us.

I did the same thing. I DID take a breastfeeding class which I liked, but a friend later told me the Lactation Consultants at my hospital are great. Just utilize the LC after you give birth.

Re: Anyone not taking classes?
this is what I did. Even though I have yet to finish the labor & delivery one....From others I have spoken to, they say that you truly don't need the classes.

Re: Anyone not taking classes?
We didn't take any classes or watch any DVD's.
When it was pushing time, the nurse gave me a real good run down of what to do and it wasn't hard to figure out when your in the middle of labor since all you want is to get it out!
As for Bfing, I had no idea of what to do but I was nursing on the delivery table. (That is my most favorite memory, it was just the 2 of us about 1 hour after birth and Wow!) Anyhow, we figured that out too. I had the hospital lactation nurse come to my room the day after birth and she explained alot that I didn't know (ie switching breasts, how long, lanolin creme, checking the diapers). A DVD may prove useful but not necessary.
Good Luck!
