Let's introduce ourselves.

Not sure if it's been done before, but why not..

Maybe we can even plan a get together.

My name is Tara, and we live in West Islip. I was an Elem School Teacher and then went into Pharmaceutical Sales, but quit last year when I was pg for the second time. I stay at home now, but will return to work in a year or two.

DH Jerry works in Medical Sales. We have been married for 6 years.

DD Ava just turned 5 and Brody will be 1 in September.

Ava will be starting full day, regular Ed Kindergarten in September.

She has a lot of Sensory issues as well as anxiety. She did get services last year through EI, but no longer qualifies. Another Mom was nice enough to tell me about her experience with the McCarton Center in NYC, and we are going in August and September for evaluations.I am hoping for a definite diagnosis and then a plan of action.

I really do appreciate all of the advice that you all have given me, and hope that we can keep this board an active one.

Would anyone like to get together as a group?

Tara

Hi Tara!

My name is Leslie. I live in Levittown. I've been married for 11 years to my hubby and we are both Teachers. My dh is a phys ed teacher and I'm going back after 6 years of being on extended child care leave.

I have three kiddos. Brianna will be 9, Mackenzie 6 and Hunter will be 4. He was just diagnosised with CAS (childhood apraxia). He also has some sensory issues that he'll finally be getting O/T in the fall for that. He will be continuing in a specialized preschool in September.

I think getting a group together would be wonderful.

My name is Diane. My husband Jay and I have been married for 9 years. We live in Coram. I am a Special Ed. Teacher, and DH has his own Landscaping company.
I have twin boys Matthew and Christoper. They will be 3 in Septemeber. Matthew is typical, and Christopher was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at 18 months. He is currently attending Building Blocks and is making GREAT progress, and he is so lucky to have his twin brother helping him.
Christopher knows all his letters, most of his numbers, colors and shapes.
I am so proud of him. I have him on a gluten/casein free diet and have seen some improvements.

My name is Michelle. I'm an attorney working full time and living in Manhattan. My husband is a finish carpenter/furnituremaker/cabinet maker out on LI. We have a 3 year old girl Jordana who is in full time day care.

She is aging out of EI- and now gets speech 2x30 and OT at a sensory gym twice a week and once with a private OT at a playroom. She had a speech delay, which has gotten much better with the introduction to day care (last August) and speech therapy (since Sept.). However, she does still have issues with expressive language, especially regarding describing her day.

She also has sensory integration issues and is a sensory seeker. The behavior from those issues has also improved. In fact, her teacher thought she has no more speech issues and never knew about the OT issues.

In the fall, she will hopefully continue speech and will be in the sensory gym 3x45.

So far, her improvement has been amazing! I want to proceed with an intense program and hopefully, when she starts kindergarden, her issues will be resolved or managed.

My name is Kerri, my DH is Steve. We live in Bay Shore. We have a 2.5 year old son, Lance, and we are expecting a Chat Icon in December.

Lance is language delayed. Although he is almost caught up, he still has some trouble answering certain questions.

He also has some behavior issues- Basically he hits pretty easily, which there is really no reason for, it's just his personality, and it's our biggest battle at this point.

Lance will be attending "typical" preshool in September w/ a seit.

I think a gtg would be great.

HI Ladies

My name is Dawn and my DS is Bryan is 30 months. He has been in EI for over a year now.
He gets PT, Speech, and Special Ed.
He attends a Developmental Pre-K 3x a week 90 mins a day.
He just started OT and gets that at school.
He has improved majorly.
He still has speech delay, but, is starting to say more and more.Chat Icon
We go to the ped. next week for a 2.5 year check up. Going to see if DS should be seen by a genetics dr/counselor considering DD had Down Syndrome...DH and I were tested and we are Not carriers, so, we are hoping that DS is just delayed and thats it, or, at least get a diagnosis of something (if there's anything)...He's also had and MRI and EEG that came back Normal.

I just had my DD in May.
She was born 7 weeks early and we found through an amnio that she has Down Syndrome (trisomy 21).
We've already started the ball rolling and EI has begun.

A GTG would be great!

Re: Let's introduce ourselves.

Hi, my name is Colleen. I'm a teacher and Dh is fire fighter. We've been married 5 years. We have a 2 yr old boy named Aidan and we're expecting another little boy next month.

DS has a speech/lang delay, some cognitive delays and sensory sensitivity issues. He receives speech 3x45, OT 2x45 (trying to increase that) and special instruction 2x45. He's made great progress. He is now starting to imitate words.

the sensory issues are becoming a major issue, as are tantrums. He opens and closes doors incessantly, he lines up his toys, he's obsessed with water and soda bottles. I'm hoping to work at decreasing these behaviors.

Re: Let's introduce ourselves.

Hi, I'm Denise. I am currently a SAHM. My DS Ethan is 27 mos.

Ethan has x-linked hydrocephalus. Since he can't drain his own brain fluid, he has a shunt to regulate it for him. Hydrocephalus is actually pretty common, but the genetic kind DS has is very rare. We were told he would most likely be a vegetable when I was PG, but he is far from that! The happy, stubborn little boy that he isChat Icon He is severely delayed, though. Happy to say he has been making improvements slow, but steadily.

DS has had EI services since he was 3 1/2 months old. At this point he gets PT, OT, Speech/Feeding, & Special Ed, each 2x week. He is not crawling or walking yet, but can roll around and pull himself forward on his belly a little. We are doing mommy & me over the summer and he will start a program in the fall.

We would love to GTG alsoChat Icon

I feel so emotional about your posts. Your little Ethan has made so much progress from the time he was born. You shared with us his accomplishments. It's amazing!!!! He is a true inspiration!

Re: Let's introduce ourselves.

I am Sophie. I am a SAHM during the week. I work PT as a massage therapist on the weekends and I teach infant massage.

EJ is 2 and was diagnosed with autism.

We are doing intensive therapies with him. He has ABA, speech (his SLP thinks he has apraxia!), OT. He will get a PT eval soon. He has his own timing and eventually get his milestones. He had a lot of sensory issues but with motivation we found that he has resolved most of them by himself with exposure.

He is a wonderful little boy. He is such a cutie! I could kiss him all day long (which I do!). He is so sweet! We are very proud of him and his progress.

We are going to do a mommy and me class this september

Re: Let's introduce ourselves.

Hi, I am Hillary. Jacob is will be 4 on Sept1. I am a SAHM and my husband is an attorney/writer.

Jacob has had a speech delay, has sensory issues going on and has social anxiety. We are going through CPSE now. He is on waiting list for Variety for their integrated program but at this point I don't think he will get in. So, the district has come up with plan B. Jacob will be attending his regular nursery school but will receive services... He will have a SEIT 4x a week for 90 minutes, will have OT 2x a week for 30 minutes, social skills group for 1 hr per week and we get parent counseling 1x a week. He is not receiving speech anymore, he didn't qualify for that anymore- his vocabulary and articulation has improved significantly. He had received speech form 18 months... I am pretty happy with the outcome..

He is receiving SEIT services at camp this summer for 2x a week for 60 minutes. Not much but it is something. My SEIT cannot believe this is the same boy that she is with during hte school year. He is thriving and he is having the time of his life at a regular full day day camp.

I will say all the professionals around me thought that Ii was making the wrong the wrong decision of sending him to such a big boy camp. I was making my self have second thoughts. Obviously,I did make the right decision and you should always go with your gut. You are your child's best advocate and know your child the best...
