UPDATE 3/20/07 Let me introduce....
Our newest addition....His name is Zander (or at least that is what he came with...Now we need to re-name him.) but he is 2.5yo min pin and the sweetest!
We brought him homat at 9pm last night and we him....He is still stressed and adjusting but I'm sure he will be great.
Update 3/20/07: Unfortunately, it's not going to work out with our new furbaby. The reason is that we found him on craigslist and the family who owned him, claimed the dog was in perfect health and was given to him a year ago by a former tenant when he moved out. They said they were getting rid of him because of lack of time and ability to care for him properly with 2 small children and one more on the way. When we got there, I noticed that one of his eyes is slightly smaller than the other andinquired about this. The owner claimed that he had taken the dog to the vet and that there was no problem with his eye or anything else and gave him a clean bill of health.
As it turned out, Fh took him to the vet yesterday and he is completely blind in that eye due to an immature cataract and he will either need $2000 surgery to correct it (still not guaranteed to get 100% vision back) or he will need to have eye drops several time a day for the rest of his life to treat it in leiu of surgery ($150-200 per month). None of which we can afford right now. (we just bought a house which we close on in 2 months so we are taking on a high mortgage payment plus paying fro our wedding in Sept. We just can't do it. So we called the owner and we are bringing him back tonight unless someone else wants him. I feel terrible and he is already so attached to my FH and i fear that owner is just going to give him to another unsuspecting family but my hands are tied...he still doesn't know we know about the eye yet. we are going to tell him tonight.
Makes me think he never took the dog to a vet, or got him shots or anything....
So Sad! Image Attachment(s):

Re: UPDATE 3/20/07 Let me introduce....
OMG, what a horrible update Can you contact a rescue or another vet and see if they can help? I hate to see him go back to the original owner since he was obviously mistreated there.

There is a minipin rescue on LI. Tell them what is going on & they might be able to help. I am sorry that the OO lied about his health. What a horrible thing.
*on a side note my MiniPin had cataracts & fatty deposits & I never had them removed. I decided, along with my vet, that the anesthesia was too risky for him. He lived a very long happy life & was quite well-adjusted even though he could not see out of his left eye.

Re: UPDATE 3/20/07 Let me introduce....
Thank you for all the insight. We did contact the Min Pin rescue and they are trying to help but they are short on foster homes and they said they can't cover the cost of the eye surgery..>We'll just have to hope they can help somehow...
The Doc said if we don'tdo the surgery then he def needs eye drops and pet insurance is another monthly expense in addition to food and other stuff we just can't right now.

Please don't take this the wrong way but you need to have $$ if something happens to any dog you get whether they are from someone else, a pound whatever. Maybe you guys should wait a while until you are settled. then you can find a dog who is in good health and get pet insurance on them. Also I wonder if pet insurance would have even covered that dog since he was already sick? GL

GL If you already have a Dr bill that shows a diagnosis or a prognosis the Pet Insurance most likely will not cover.
I hope that the Min Pin rescue can help. Maybe also call Little Shelter...they are no-kill.

ITA sorry
I would hate to see the poor thing who is sick go back to the family who didn't take care of him.
What if the dog had gotten sick after you adopted him? You wouldn't give him back. Animals are like kids sometimes they need extra care and sometimes they cost more money then expected
