Good School District w/ a decent commute to the city?

Dh and I have been looking for homes but haven't been able to find anything we really love. I was hoping we could expand our search but I didn't know what other towns had a decent commute to the city but also in a good school district.

We've looked in Garden City, Syosset, Plainview, Merrick, New Hyde Park ....

Anyone have any other suggesstions. I know it sounds crazy that we can't find anything but there are nice homes just nothing we love Chat Icon

If anyone has any suggestions I appreciate it.

Oceanside is a good runner up to RVC, still close, good school district, and we are only 10 min walk to train station.

if you are taking a train into the city...have you considered port washington (or anything along the port washington branch)?

I don't think you could go wrong with Rockville Centre - Merrick - Bellmore - Wantagh - Seaford - Massapequa.

All are about a 40-60 minute train ride into the City.

Plainview-Old Bethpage is a very good district and if you could afford Garden City or Syosset - both of those are excellent districts.

I was also going to suggest Port Washington line. It's great b/c we don't go through Jamaica.

so much depends on what you can afford to spend on a house but in addition to some of the ones mentioned, I would also recommend
Herricks (covers parts of New Hyde Park, Williston Park, Albertson and Roslyn Heights).

not sure if this is too far, but harborfields (greenlawn/huntington - centerport is a decent trek to get to the train station) and half hollow hills (dix hills - wyndanch station) SDs are great and about a 60 min LIRR ride.

we are in harborfields and DH doesn't go in everyday anymore - but he used to for years. express trains are 50-55 minutes

Thanks for all the suggestions. Anyone know anything about East Norwich? I know you can take the Syosset or Hicksville train.

How's the town? and the commute?

Re: Good School District w/ a decent commute to the city?

It sounds a little far but my commute to NYC was only an hour on the express train (and I loved the sleep), I commuted from Northport to NYC for almost 12 years.
