Amneo (sp?)
Hi Ladies,
Yesterday was another DR visit. I am 10w 5 days (yesterday).
Sono, heartbeat- everything fine.
We sat down and talked with the DR afterwards and he asked us if we wanted to do any testing to see if the baby has downsyndrome.
DH and I have spoke about it but never decided if we would do it.
Im not sure if I want to though?
So my question is.......how many of you had the testing done and how many chose not to have it done?
Am I crazy if I dont have it/want it done?

My DH and I are doing extensive genetic testing. It is very important to us before we proceed with a pregnancy full term. However, it is a very personal decision. Different women have very different views.

They test for DS is thru a series of blood tests and a sonogram at first. If you have High risk factor after the bloodwork comes in and an unusual sonogram then they will do an amnio.
Yes we did the bloodwork and the sono.

We had all the bloodwork & ultrasounds done for testing, but never did the amnio. From the results of both the ultrascreen & the AFP test, our results did not warrant the amnio.
For us, we just wanted to know what was going on knowing it would never change our decision on our child. It definately is a personal decision. I know many friends that opted out of all testing.

yes ours was the same way, the #'s on my bloodwork came back fine. But Dh and I has discussed that if they didnt we would not do a amino.

yup we did/are doing all the sonos and bloodwork (12 week quad screen, AFP, level 2 sono), but won't do an amnio unless we have to (e.g the numbers/percentages come back low and the doctors feel it needs to be done).

We did IVF w/PGD so we knew with about a 95% degree of accuracy before  was put in that he did not have DS or another common chromosomal defect. However, because of the margin of error (5-10%) if something had turned up with the ultrascreen we would have gone ahead with the amnio.
