Recommend Maternal-Fetal specialist
Hi all,
I am only pregnant with one child, but have disabling pain condition, auto-immune disease and my baby is IVF w/ ICSI.
I am interested in seeing a perinatologist/maternal fetal specialist.
Can you recommend one? Why do you recommend this doctor? Did this doctor do any of your previous deliveries?
Thank you! Congrats on your pregnancies!
Jennifer

Re: Recommend Maternal-Fetal specialist
Dr. Victor Klein
I don't have his new contact info, since he moved offices, but he is in Great Neck, affiliated with NSUH Manhasset and specializes in high risk.
The man will take cases that other OB's will not touch at all. A couple of years ago a Huntington woman was doing IVF, only wanted one egg transferred as she was so afraid of having multiples, well...
it split into THREE... identical triplets sharing ONE PLACENTA... so rare...
so incredibly high risk that 12 OB's told her to just abort, yes 12 OB's said abort and start again... it was too much risk to the children and her life. He was the only one willing to take on the cases. She delivered 3 healthy baby boys!!
I also know the details of other cases... unimaginable diagnosis... that he takes on.
He was the only one in the tri-state willing to treat that woman.. high risk, complicated cases are routine to him.
I warn you, like so many other specialists, he's a bit socially awkward He walks into the room like Kramer... but if you think about it, you don't need him for his social skills.
His partner Dr. Michael Nimroff is excellent as well. He was the head of OB=GYN at Manhasset and delivered my children.
Good luck

Wow! That is amazing. He sounds like a very skilled and dedicated man.
Thanks for the heads up on the Kramer thing! Some of the world's most talented and intelligent people are socially awkward.
Thanks a million for the recommendation!

Another vote for Dr. Klein. I know he was also recognized in New York magazine's top doctor's in the maternal fetal medicine section. He's a bit quirky but he knows what he's doing.

Maternal Fetal Medicine in Great Neck. All the Dr.s are great but Dr Lewis is my favorite she delivered my triplets 3 weeks ago. They deliver out of NSUH and I have only great things to say about them and they came highly recommended by my RE. Good luck

Re: Recommend Maternal-Fetal specialist
Actually I used the Maternal Fetal Medicine group in Great Neck for my twin boys in 2006. I went to them because I was high risk as there was something unidentified in the sac with one of the twins. It eventually resorbed itself (?) by the end of the pregnancy, but they kept a very close eye on it. I loved Dr. Smith-Levitton and Dr. Lewis but the head of the group, Dr. Burt Rochelson, was my absolute favorite and was the one to deliver my boys.
This time around I was not considered high risk (even though it's twins again :)) and was not able to go back to that group. I was referred to Drs Klein, Nimaroff and Alkasab so that is who I am seeing now. I really like them all! Dr. Klein is awesome - didn't find him awkward necessarily, but definitely social and a chatterbox. However, very highly recommended and accomplished with high risk pregnancies. They haven't delivered my girls yet, but I feel very confident in their hands.
I think you can't go wrong either way. Good luck with your search and keep us posted...!
