Anyone else afraid to fly??

So I am leaving to go to Florida tomorrow morning, and I am SO nervous. I am really scared of flying. I don't let it hold me back, but I do not like it. I have been anxious all day, actually for the past few days. lol
Any advice for me? Thanks!!

I am not afraid to fly rather I am afraid of the severe motion sickness I suffer from. For myself and all those around me, I medicate. I don't promote drug use, but its a must for me to survive the shortest of flights. When we went on our honeymoon in Hawaii, we had to Island hop by plane because we visited 4 islands. The shortest flight was all of 10 minutes. I thought I could handle it. I couldn't. Case and point.

I don't have any advice because I am pretty terrified of flying...... and unlike you, I DO let it hold me back! I am totally embarrassed by it and hope this is something I can overcome soon so when I have kids, we can go on lots of interesting family vacations.


I just want to say that even though you are scared, there is A LOT to be said for not letting the fear stand in your way! That takes courage and strength!


It's OK to be afraid! It's normal to be afraid of things from time to time, especially flying which is a common one..... but it becomes a problem when it effects the way you run your life! You will be fine!! Enjoy your trip! Listen to some music on an mp3 player and relax Easier said than done though, trust me, I KNOW!!

I am petrified of flying. I have to medicate myself (doctor prescribed) to even sit in an airport. What time is your flight? Maybe your doctor can call something in for you before you leave.

Very scared.

I either drug myself or have about 3-4 glasses of wine before boarding.

I try to focus on other people and how calm they seem - if there was something to worry about, why would the guy next to me be sleeping and the woman near me be reading casually? Ya know? I try to use that to make me feel better.

I was a wreck flying to London. I blame a lot of this on watching Lost obsessively Florida is nice and quick so it's manageble.

I try to relax, focus on something else. I actually got a prescription for ambien before my London flight just to get through it.

I am the same way. I am nervous for MONTHS before I fly. I hear the words "airport" or "airplane" and I get anxious. I still fly because I have to...you are not alone.

I prefer a few Captain Morgan and Cokes and that relaxes me. Not 100% but it's better. I call it, "My Flyin' Juice."

FL is really quick, you'll be there in no time! You have a lot of courage to fly even though you're afraid...like PennyCat said, I'm afraid too but I let it hold me back from going anywhere! I can't even try and relax by drinking or taking anything to relax me, because in my warped mind I think that if something happened, drinking or drugs would slow my reaction time!! i hate it, i usually am the person pounding drinks before getting on the plane and then taking benedryl(sp).

I am really looking forward to the plans on having more speed trains so people can take them to florida and cross country and get there at a decent speed/time.

SO afraid and I have let it hold me back.

I am 29 and never flown, my mom hasnt flown since 1979, and that was her first and only flight.

My sister on the other hand flies all the time all over the place. SO i duno why i am so scared.

I am hoping and praying that i can overcome this fear and go on some cool and interesting trips very soon.

I am very afraid, but the way I see it is that the benefit greatly outweighs the risk. I would rather face my fear kicking and screaming and see the world while I can than be trapped to only see what is in driving distance.

I am not afraid more nervous. I can get on a plane with no problem but when turbulence hits I get very very nervous. I fly frequently but the turbulence is what scare the crap out of me.

You will be fine just think FL is a 2 1/2 hour flight it is not that bad if you occupy yourself with something like a book, movie on the laptop, or even listening to music. Have fun!!

I wouldn't say I'm afraid of flying, but I'm definitely NOT a fan of it. 1) I don't like the way it makes me feel. I don't get sick or anything, but it just isn't natural. 2) I worry about the people around me... are they OK? Are they going to have a heart attack mid-flight? Are they going to puke near me?

Last few times I flew, I took the Dramamine that makes your drowsy and I passed out.

i am in the same boat you are!! my answer is xanax + glass of wine lol

everyone told me not to do it, but you know what, it relaxed me SO much and i passed out within 5 minutes of being up in the air.... obviously you cant run to the doc and get xanax now, so i say, have a couple of glasses of wine!!!

I have taken a valium before flying and that is the best way to fly but only if your traveling with someone. It's not safe to take by yourself (just because your knocked out)

I am a nervous wreck in a plane.

I just pray. and sit like a cornered animal until the fasten your seat belt sign comes off.

take off and landing is the worst for me.
