Weekly Reader or Scholastic News

I know I asked before but I cannot find the link. I teach 1st and 2nd grade special ed - the kids are pretty low functioning. They are mainly "Labeled" MR.

I wanted your opinion on which you would get

Grade 1 weekly reader
Grade 1 Scholostic News

I cannot get both - I am paying for it with my own money

Honestly, if the kids are MR, I would consider getting a kindergarten level...when I taught second grade, we had weekly reader and they were written on a higher level...can you get a sample of each sent to you so you can make a better judgment? From what I remember, Scholastic might have been written a little lower....sorry if this doesn't help...

Re: Weekly Reader or Scholastic News

This year i had an autism class grades 1-3 and i used 1st grade Scholastic news...at times, the content was too much but the reading level was ok. I would go for a kindergarten level if i were you!

I teach 1st & I actually got National Geographic Junior (forget the name exactly) last year. More like a magazine. Beautiful pictures. The kids really liked it.

I'm a big fan of Time for Kids. They have a K/1 edition. I think your kids would really like the vibrant pictures and interesting topics.

I'm Speech and I usually get Time for Kids Big Picture edition for my groups from the low functioning K-2 and the 3-5 classes.
