It is not every day that an attorney vendor has fun pictures to post!

It is not often that an attorney has fun pictures to post online, so I am very excited to be able to post some with this blog entry.
June 4, 2009 was the annual Installation of Board Members and Directors of the Suffolk County Bar Association. I was sworn in as a newly elected Director for a three year term.
The gala was held at Oheka Castle. Oheka holds very special meaning to me because I attended day camp there in the 1970s, before the castle underwent extensive renovations. For those who know the current opulence of Oheka castle, can you even imagine little girls running the hallways in their wet bathing suits and challenging each other to games of cat's cradle? It seemed right that my Installation to the Board of Directors of the Bar Association took place there. As I reflected on the fact that the castle has been restored to its original grandeur, I realized that I, too, have been fortunate enough to embrace qualities and sophistication that were just below the surface when I was a little girl in camp.

I will start with a picture or two of myself...... because I am vain. Actually, I do not think that I am vain but I am excited about having gotten photos of myself that I don't cringe at!

The Officers took their oaths right after the Directors did. The Honorable John Czygier administered the oath to the Officers. This was the view I had, as I had just left the podium. I hope I get the names correct even though I cannot see faces in this photo. It's about time I showed a photo of my dear husband, Scott. Here he is with his dad. My in-laws and my parents attended the event. Somehow I missed getting a photo of my mother-in-law but I think that some other people took some.
Here is Director Richard (Rick) Stern returning to the podium to be sworn in as the Dean of the Suffolk Academy of Law. There was some confusion early in the evening as my father, whose name is Richard Stone, received Rick Stern's place card and vice versa. They both had a good laugh, and if the confusion had continued, my dad, who is not a lawyer, would not have known what to do if they asked him to take an oath to become the Dean!
The incoming Bar Association President took her oath of office and then gave a beautiful speech. One quote stood out, because I feel the same way about becoming a Director as she feels about becoming the Bar Association President. She said, "If someone had said to me when I graduated from law school that this position would one day be mine, I would have thought it a foolhardy notion. But here I am after many years of hard work, dedication and loyalty to this great organization and to all of you, standing as your next President."
There were screens throughout the venue so that those in attendance could see the podium. As honored as I was to be there to be sworn in as a Director, I must explain that this annual event is really all about the incoming President. This was her night to receive congratulations from the profession. Without further adieu, here is the new Suffolk County Bar Association President, Ilene Sherwyn Cooper.
Her dress was absolutely stunning. The photos do not do it justice. Unfortunately, Ilene's mother passed away about a week after this event. I am sure she was very proud of Ilene.

I would not be true to my roots as an alumni of liweddings.com if I did not take some photos of the beautiful venue.
Ballroom. People were looking at the screens, which included the speeches and a photo montage of the Judges who serve Suffolk County.
The library. This room was bustling during the cocktail hour and then it became the place for lawyers to have some quiet while they made their cell phone calls. I do not remember what this room looked like during my camp days but the room next to it was my bunk.
This stairway has not changed much since my camp days at Oheka.

I will end with a classic style portrait taken by Heather of Forever Fireflies. We had a last minute photo session before the event. This is how amazing her photos are, even when she has no time to adjust lighting or plan the shoot.
