IEP
My son just started Kindergarten and I didn't get a copy of his IEP. Am I suppose to? Before I raise my voice I want to make sure I should have.
Also if anyone knows he's suppose to receive ABA services after school and they never contacted the agency. Since it's written in his IEP (or they said it is) can I blow a gasket on that one to?

Re: IEP
I'm a special education teacher, and in my district, the parents receive a copy of the IEP usually around July, since it takes the main office a while to finalize all of the IEPs. I would definitely call the special ed/student support office and inquire about it. I feel its always better to be proactive and you have to be your child's advocate.

Re: IEP
I really don't know the rules for CSE but Jacob is going through CPSE at the moment and we got our IEP during the summer from the district. I would definately say something to that..
In regards for them contacting the agency, I think that you have to do the contacting. It is different than EI..
For Jacob's OT and for his social skills group, I had to tell the district what agency I was using, ( for us it is All About Kids) and then I contacted the agency and they have been working with me to accomodate JAcob's schedule to fit in his therapies. Right now, I am a little annoyed. I still don't have a time for Jacob's social skills group. I hope we have it soon because my IEP started as of last week...

We are going throug the CPSE process right now, can I ask you a question? what is a social skills group exactly. My DD has severe social issues and if it's something that might benefit her I'll bring it up at our meeting. Thanks!

Re: IEP
just call and ask. we still haven't received some of our students' IEPs and school has been in session for a week now! nice right? the teachers can be just as frustrated as the parents.
call the special ed office for your district and ask when you will receive it.
speaking from someone on the "other side", it's better to start with sugar than spice if you know what i mean. you don't want to burn bridges with admin at the beginning of kindergarten. you are absolutely entitled to that report ASAP and should already have a copy, but "blowing a gasket" without asking first probably isn't your best bet

The social skills groups are run by the agencies that also offer OT, Pt, Speech etc. It is a group with children who have similar issues and is run by a social worker. Jacob did not qualiufy for speech (yeah) but he has difficulty with pragmatic speech plus he has some social anxiety issues too. this group is perfect with him-- using his words and being with his peers. It is for one time a week for an hour.
I would definately ask the district if this type of group is appropriate for your child. It doesn't hurt to ask. A friend of mine did not no about parent training. After speaking with me, she called her districted and asked for it and got it...
Good luck!!!
