Anyone know anything about Civil Service exams?
I have been watching for the clerk/typist exam and while there is clerk one coming up soon, I think I need the typist one (or are they combined.....i'm so confused!)
I would love to leave my job. I have very strong secretarial skills and want to work in a school or hospital, but most, if not all, require the civil service clerk/typist.
can anyone help? Do you know how often they run the tests?

Re: Anyone know anything about Civil Service exams?
In Suffolk, the last time the test was given was April 2006. It looks like there two different job titles: Clerk and Clerk/Typist.
Here are the job descriptions for each:
Clerk
Clerk Typist
I haven't taken these tests, so I don't know any other specifics than what is on the website.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

Re: Anyone know anything about Civil Service exams?
I'm pretty sure the clerk typist test was already held this year. I want to say it was last month or the month before. I don't think they have tabulated the scores though and posted the results online. The clerk typist jobs pay more than the clerk jobs, so that's the list you want to get on.

Re: Anyone know anything about Civil Service exams?
The clerk typist exam was 6 months ago. I took it and I just got my results (yes, Suffolk County civil services takes that LONG to report results)!
The exam won't be held again for at least 2-3 years. That was the span of time between the first time and the second time I took it.
Another option is to check NYS Civil Service. You would be eligible to take positions at any state facility (SUNY, state court, etc).
If you have any specific questions on the exams or signing up, FM me. I'd be happy to help!
