question about subs....
do i have to complete my certification before i can sub? or can i sub while i am finishing my degree?

in nyc you just need a bachelors degree - don't now if they are giving new sub licenses right now though. but i have a feeling you aren't asking about nyc.

My district requires you to be certified (I'm on Long Island). don't know if that's true for all districts though.

I subbed in Levittown, Wantagh, and East Meadow. I had my bachelors, but was not certified to teach. I was, however, in school to get my Masters in education. I know your level of education affected sub pay.

in my district (suffolk) you need your 4-year degree, however state law says that you can only sub for 40 days with that... if you are certified or pursuing your certification then you can sub for more than 40 days

I know in LI it really depends on the district. I remember being limited for where I could sub since I was subbing before I had my teaching certificate. Some schools you needed it. .. Some schools you needed to be going for your teaching degree.... Some schools didn't care......
