Re: Apparently my ILs bought Ryan his entire Christmas list for becoming a big brother
HOnestly, I would be happy with the gifts. They are probalbly trying to be thoughtful and save you money. I doubt they are trying to steal christmas gifts. WHen my dd was born my ds could have used some big bribes. He still talks about his big brother gifts from two years ago. If it were me, I think I would be happy to have the stuff and let it go. Becoming an older sibling is rough for many reasons.

Honestly, I think you are overreacting a little. Your son is little, right...like 1 or 2 years old? If so, he has absolutely no concept of who gave him the gift, why he got it, etc.
My kids are 3 and 5 and I used to stress over getting them the perfect gifts and making sure all holidays were super special and I've learned that they don't even remember it all!
So now, I'm all for the grandparents buying the big ticket items and we suppliment with less expensive things. At this point they have no concept of how much things cost, etc...so if grandma wants to open her wallet than Ya-hoooooooo!
Don't let it bother you....get him something special as his big brother gift that he will have forever. So then when he is old enough to understand the special role he played in the baby's life, he'll have something to remember it by.

I'd just put them away until Christmas
They are going to be gone for eons anyway!!
Buy something small from each of them and call it a day
I agree.

I think you are overreacting. I don't understand posts like this. I am so grateful for ANY gift DD gets from her family (which is pretty much nothing.) it seems that a lot of posters (not you, specifically) send mixed messages to their in-laws. They are fine with them buying huge ticket items like the crib, dresser, changing table, glider etc., but then when the baby/toddler comes, it's hands off. Just something I noticed on these boards.
Anyway, I thin they are both nice toys to celebrate his big brother-dom. I would enjoy.

Re: Apparently my ILs bought Ryan his entire Christmas list for becoming a big brother
I recently learned that my mother used to be upset when all the grandparents, aunts and uncles bought us big ticket items growing up. she used to worry that we would like their gifts better than santa. truth is, i hardly remember what came from where but i always remember loving and looking forward to the gifts santa brought me, and now looking back at it, which usually was lots of small-to-medium priced and sized items.

Def overreacting! They were just trying to do a nice thing! Why take it so personal. So he doesn't get the kitchen you wanted for him. What's the difference. A kitchen is a kitchen and in a yr or so he will be over it anyway.
I would be happy if my IL's did this. I think it is very thoughtful.
