Museum of Natural History and Kindergarten

Ok so I have to do a mandatory trip to the Museum of Natural History and for our PD on Election Day I have to actually go to the museum and plan a trip around it.

Now here's the thing I personally DISLIKE the museum, always have no matter how many times I've been. I also know that most of the stuff there is more beneficial to grade 4 and up. What could I do there with a bunch of Kindergarteners?

I need help, oh and it has to be one of the free exhibits, no shows or anything.

Personally I'd much rather go next door to the planetariumChat Icon

you could see what is there and obvious and do a treasure hunt type of exercise - kids could work in teams

i took kindergartners there a few years ago and it was great. We did a butterfly exhibit they had going at the time as well as the Egyptian pyramid stuff, which was great because they were able to touch and climb over everything. Can you get a hold of a guide? I would only take kindergartners to parts of the museum that they can touch/play with the exhibits.

Hopefully they still have this stuff there. yea the hands on stuff would be good for the little ones.

A treasure hunt would be ok I guess, I was maybe thinking of relating it to the movie "night at the museum" but of course that requires me to actually watch in in the next week.

have you looked at the website?
Can you relate it to any math or science lessons?

For instance, and I don't teach K so I don't know specifically what is taught, but here goes:

Give them a tally sheet (if you've taught them this...doesn't even need to be real tallies, just lines) and have them keep track of reptiles, mammals and insects.

How many animals begin with the letter of the week?

I like the treasure hunt idea, too!
