When did you give peanut butter

I am a pb fiend! Im surprised that Seamus wasnt born covered in it because of how much I ate while I was pregnant! lol

He is 15 and a half months

Last Saturday, I came downstairs and Dh was feeding Seamus a cookie from a packed on the counter. They were Dark Chocolate ALMOND cookies from Trader Joe's! I told him to stop but he had alraedy eaten half the cookie! We watched him for over an hour and he had no reaction whatsoever.

There is NO history of a PB allergy in either of our families.

Did you listen to the ped (wait until 2 years old) or just give pb at your discretion?

Re: When did you give peanut butter

no, I didn't listen to my Ped on this one. JMO, but I really do believe the reason there are so many kids with peanut allergies now is because of the "waiting" game. My DS is 9.5 mos and he has had PB. So far, so good (no history in either of our families, may feel different if there was).

I gave PB to DS after he turned 2. It's not only because of the peanut allergy that the Dr recommended to wait but also because PB is a choking hazard. We gave him natural PB on a cracker and he loved it. No reaction.

umm

I was supposed to wait?

ooops

AJ is 14m and had some PB&J sandwiches off and on since 1yr. I thought you had to wait to 1yr. I dont have a huge affection for PB so I haven't given it to her much.

oh well. Knowing the amount of PB we eat, she probably won't see it a lot between now and 2yrs anyway.

We held off until 2 - my ped has people hold off b/c PB is a choking hazard.

Re: When did you give peanut butter

My DD is 15 months and we just discovered she has a peanut allergy. The allergist said the waiting till they are 3 or 4 has nothing to do with whether or not they will have an allergy, it has to do with their ability to tell you something is wrong. (difficulty breathing)

I had never thought of this logic. It makes sense and if I would have read that before giving DS peanut butter, I would have probably waited.

I gave DS PB a few weeks ago. He gave that little shutter when you eat something disgusting....so I guess he won't be getting it again for a while!
ETA - DS is 17 months.

Re: When did you give peanut butter

we intend to wait until the full 2 years are up... my ped is EXTREMELY easy going about food things and that is the only thing she keeps repeating to us so we decided that that one can wait
