Help me with this situation..
Our house is very close to our neighbor's. And DS' room faces their side door.
They recently put in a spot light. Like a major motion sensor light, and it is very sensitive.
DS is now waking up and freaking out when it goes on in the middle of the night saying it is a fire We have heavy shades, but it comes in anyway...
I don't know what to do. He really freaks out....

Re: Help me with this situation..
Do you have blackout curtains? Our bedroom is right outside of our garage where our motion sensor light is, and we get no light whatsoever through our blackout curtains.

Re: Help me with this situation..
if it were me, I would try and maybe cover his window with some towels or sheets to drain the light. I personally wouldn't say anything to my neighbor.

Re: Help me with this situation..
That stinks. I totally feel your pain. Frankie is a very light sleeper and freaks out about any noise or light.
How close are you with your neighbors?
Our neighbors adore Frankie and I don't think they would be at all offended if we mentioned it to them and asked if maybe there was another place they could put it and maybe offer to help take it down and re-install it? I'm not saying they necessarily would, but they wouldn't get upset if we asked.
If you are on friendly terms, it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Re: Help me with this situation..
Kate get the blackout shades, that way you can keep the room dark at night (and early morning! ) but you have the option to roll them up when you want light! This place has different color options and good prices: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/Blackout-Roller-Shades.aspx?a=388332&kwtid=262991

Re: Help me with this situation..
If you have a good/decent relationship with your neighbor I would talk to them. I’m assuming it’s going off without people or an animal walking by, if that’s the case I would chat with them about adjusting the sensitivity. Our motion light faces our neighbor’s kitchen we have asked them if the light bothers them but they said no. We did adjust the sensitivity so that you had to walk past on our property only. When we first moved in an replaced the bulb the light would go off if they opened the door.

I agree with trying alternate methods of darkening the room. I know for myself, I wouldn't feel right saying anything to them. I'm sorry, that's a tough one.

Re: Help me with this situation..
Definitely try blackout shades if that doesn't work I would ask them to maybe try to angle the little sensor higher so every little thing doesn't set it off. I know when my sensor is too low, leaves will set it off LOL

Re: Help me with this situation..
We have blackout shades on that window, it is so close (probably 8ft?) and SO bright he can see through it...
I totally understand having one (we have it too...) and C3's room is SO narrow I don't know if I could even move the bed. Ugh

Re: Help me with this situation..
We have blackout blinds and blackout curtains over my windows (we like the dark) in my bedroom. Try getting 2 sets of blackout curtains. I'm sure that will take care of it.

I was going to suggest the same. Those lights can be adjusted. I think when they hear that its going off in a childs room they will adjust it. It may even have bothered them but they have been lazy and not changed it. This will speed up the process. I dont think you are being rude, you are being honest.

definitely - since you already have blackout shades - there isn't much more you 'can' do - ya know??? if you didn't have them - i'd say get them and if those didn't work, then talk to them...but it seems like you can skip that step and just chat with them!

How friendly are you with your neighbors? Would they be mad if you asked them to take it down if you explain the situation?

I would talk to the neighbors about adjusting the angle of the light so it's not right in his room.
The point of it is really to light the space not blind the burgular. I'm sure they'd understand. If you have a poor relationship, I'd probably get another set of black out curtains to go with the blinds.

Re: Help me with this situation..
we had this problem with our neighbors.
i just nicely let them know that it was shining in DS's room and our room and asked if they could angle it down a little more. they had no idea. not only did they angle it down, but they installed a brand new one that had less light which was not necessary but very nice.
just talk to them, even if you don't know them very well. they probably aren't doing it on purpose.

ITA. I'd just say something to them. Most people would be understanding.

I agree with talking to the neighbors about it. If that doesn't work check the town code and see if exterior flood lights on homes is permitted.
