Working with jerks ?????
Okay ladies. How do YOU deal with having to work closely with someone who is passive aggressive, underhanded, manipulative etc....
I have been the bigger person, but boy having to work with someone who smiles in your face and all the while does everything they can to undermine you is truly aggravating....would love some insight as to how others deal with this situation

I have been bitting my tounge for about 2 months and it is just getting worse.
It is hard to 'kill them with kindness', especially when you just want to kill them in general.
Good Luck!

Re: Working with jerks ?????
I have a co-worker dealing with this right now (with one of her subordinates).
She is just very careful to make her requests very clear, and she is as polite as she can stand to be. She is also in constant contact with the head of the department so that he knows what is going on, what she expects of this person, and any trouble she is having. It's not malicious, she is just documenting every negative interaction she has with this employee.
I am actually going to suggest that she start putting all of her requests in writing so that it is fully documented and the "jerk" employee cannot claim that there was any misunderstanding. Is that something you are able to do?

I did this as well with someone I used to supervise, and by documenting her every move, I was able to get enough justification to fire her. I also brought all of my documentation to my meetings every week with my superiors so I had them behind me when it was time to give her the boot.
I had an email paper trail with her too, and also had her sign off on numerous things I gave her so she couldn't deny it later on.

Also, I know not everyone has this option, but I often take advantage of the fact that with my job, I can be in the field a lot, doing my paperwork at home, or wherever. I have found that there are some days where I just can't take the drama or negativity from other people back at the office.

I would love to have this option, but as a teacher I really have no choice but to go in!
The drama in my school is just like being in HS all over again!!!!!! You wouldn't believe the stories if you saw it for yourself!

Re: Working with jerks ?????
Same here. I am a social worker, and one of the things I always say is that this field tends to attract the nutjobs with unresolved issues themselves.
My mom is a retired teacher and also used to talk about the craziness that happened with working with a bunch of other women.
