Holiday gift for the principal

Do most teachers give a holiday gift to the principal?

I highly doubt this is routine in most schools, but it is in mine and if we don't, the principal get's insulted. So, basically EVERYONE gives! Chat Icon

What are your thoughts?

I don't and think that maybe a very few people give her a gift....def don't think it's necessary. That stinks that it's the norm in your school....

I never have and I don't think anyone does in my school...

what happens if you don't? Are you subtly punished, like with a stinky schedule next year?

He's harder on you. Basically the principal believes he does us 'favors' during the year Chat Icon and believes we should show our appreciation.

It's really a crazy dynamic in my school. I'm hoping to get out for next school year. He runs a dictatorship and I am so tired of it already.

ETA: I just want to say, basically EVERYONE gives a gift and when I went to give him his gift last year, his whole office was filled with gifts (he keeps all his wrapped gifts people give him in this office all week long before the break so you feel awkward if you walk in his office empty-handed) ..... Last year I spent $50. This year I plan on spending half that.

Re: Holiday gift for the principal

I have always given a gift.

I usually get a box of nice choclates (Godiva).

Last year I got my Principal A jewerly set. Not expensive, costume jewerly. She always compliments my jewerly so I figured she'd like it.

I think a big mug and a bag of coffee from Starbucks is also nice Chat Icon

I never give a gift because we are underappreciated as it is and the principal doesn't make it a point to give me one either....

same at my school! Last year our "gift" was a paper in our mailbox that said "happy holidays" on it LOL... which is actually more than we ever got before! I don't get any gifts for administrators (or anyone else for that matter) at my school.

Re: Holiday gift for the principal

DEF. NOT for my principal this year- she is on the warpath!

But even without that I would never- it is not right to give gifts expecting or needing to get favors in return. Totally unprofessional IMO

I though it wasn't appropriate to give to a superior?

What about a nice bookmark - leather or something like that?

Re: Holiday gift for the principal

at my school, a few teachers collect money from everyone (who wants to participate) to get one nice gift for the principal for the holidays as well as for the end of the year.

Negative...they make more than I do and it's just awkward...some people do, but it's just not my thing and I don't really get it..it's unprofessional, imo, to expect it...

My school is known for their lack of professionalism regarding the staff Chat Icon I have stories that would literally blow your mind.

Re: Holiday gift for the principal

My principal is very good to me and one of my friends. We chip in and get her a nice Baci chocolate or something similar. We know we don't have to, but she has a rough time at our school and we want her to know we appreciate her.
