Re: LIPA Credit
Does anyone NOT do the budgeted bill? We're now in our first home and DH & I would rather see what we normally spend and be able to adjust our electric habits accordingly... otherwise, how would you know? until you get hit with a huge overage at the end of the year...

We don't do the budget plan. We pay under $100 in the winter and over $200 in the summer, but we know it's coming so it's not a problem. I'd rather just pay what I owe than guess (or rely on how much electricity the previous owner used) and be slammed with overages from time to time. That's just my personality, though. I bet more people would prefer predictabilty.

They give you a summary at the bottom of your bill that shows your actual usage vs what was billed.
You can also see your usage history when you login online, as well enter your own meter readings.

For the first year we lived in the house, we did not do budget, just so we can see the 'actual' usage. We then switched over to the budget plan. I didn't want them basing our budget price on the previous owner's usage.

Re: LIPA Credit
i am recently for the first time dealing with a lipa bill. i was on the website the other day and it said u can enter your own reading
what is the purpose of that??
also does anyone know if there is a place on the website where u can see your usage if your in mid cycle? does that make sense? basically i want to know if i can see what my next bill will be or how much i have used at any time instead of waiting for the bill

We weren't on a budget during the first year we moved in. We also wanted to give it a chance. It was so cheap at first...we thought, wow, this is GREAT.
Then the months started passing.......and each month got higher and higher and then much higher........so onto the Budget it was.

Re: LIPA Credit

we didnt start budgeting until after the first year.. it killed e when we had low bills all year and two 600 bill for the summer months... the overage has never been more then 30.00 at the end... and you can stilll monitor how much you use

Re: LIPA Credit
I didn't get a credit. Is it only for people on a budget? My usage is not bad the taxes and other fees are more than my usage..How is that possible?

I'd rather just pay what I owe than guess (or rely on how much electricity the previous owner used) and be slammed with overages from time to time. That's just my personality, though. I bet more people would prefer predictabilty. You can review your actual usage and keep track of the difference between what you've paid and what you have used. If your usage goes a certain amount above/below estimate for a certain amount of time, they adjust your balanced billing amount. The balanced biling was more accurate for us during the second year we owned our house than during the first, because our first year estimate was based on the previous owner's usage. It wasn't too far off, though.
We use it because we'd have major swings in summer versus winter with the central AC. Our usage and budget are usually pretty close. Between electric and gas balanced billing, we are usually about dead even at the end of the year.
