I'm Home with My Beautiful New.....
SON!!!! I was due on 12/9 and delivered him at 3:22am on Friday 12/11. I can't say enough amazing things about the Stonybrook Midwifes and my birthing team. I haven't had a spare second to do anything, let alone come on the computer. Being a new mommy and BFing is an incredible amount of work. And the joys are overwhelming. I'm working on writing my birthstory, but in a nutshell...I was fully committed to a natural, unmedicated delivery and had learned and prepared for months. When I got to the hospital I was diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia and needed magnesium to prevent stroke and seizure. Since that calms the contractions and the only cure for the high bp is delivery....pitocin was introduced, but at a low level. I was sad to have needed medicinal help on any level, but realized the greater goal was health and safety. I could never have predicted the high BP and trusted my strength and knowlege to consent to the support. I did decline all pain meds and anything else they offered. After about 6 hours of hard labor and 1hr, 20 min of pushing....the most beautiful boy was born.....I birthed him while laying in DH's arms, as he was behind me on the bed, taking the force of each push. My son was placed on my belly for two hours after his delivery. DH and I held eachother and him, while he learned to nurse for the first time. It was the most tantric, powerful and insane event of my life. Despite the minor glitch with the BP, I am truly grateful that I had the birth that I had dream of and planned for. So, without further ado...Here he is....Julian Cole, 6lbs 8oz, 19.5 in...and soooo sweet. You girls have been an amazing source of knowledge and comfort....Best wishes to each of you...you're in store for the best love life has to offer!!!

This post made me tear up! I am so glad that everything went well. The fact that you remained calm through what could have been chaos is something I truly admire.
Congrats on your beautiful baby boy! I can't wait to read the whole birth story!
