(1/p/10)FINAL Update.......in 2WW now!! (UPDATE #9)

.................to check my follies!! Chat Icon Took Clomid last week for a luteal phase defect, going to see what is going on today, and hopefully within the next few days I will have my trigger shot, ovulate, and have an IUI . With any luck................the BEST Xmas present ever!!!............a BFP!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

UPDATE #1 (Monday 9:45am) - I just got back a little while ago and everything is quiet. They don't see anything going on yet (had an internal sono) but I am only on CD10. I usually ovulate pretty late (CD22-24) so I wasn't surprised but I have to go back on Thursday for another sono. I took Clomid on CD3 - CD7 so things can change quickly and I'm thinking they expect me to ovulate earlier than normal. Guess we'll see. I filled my Rx for Ovidrel (hcG trigger shot) and I have to bring it with me to every visit because as soon as they see any mature follies they are going to give me the shot which ensures ovulation shortly after and then we'll do the IUI. I will keep you posted!! Next update - Thursday!! Chat Icon

UPDATE #2 (Thursday 9:35am) - I just got back from my RE appt and...............WE HAVE EGGS!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I am on CD13 and I went from nothing on Monday to a few on each side now!! Chat Icon Chat Icon The biggest follie was only about 11mm so they are going to have me come back on Monday for another sono to see what the deal is. We are hoping that by Monday they will have gotten mature enough where I can take the trigger shot and have the IUI on Tuesday. If not by Monday my dr. is thinking Wed. at the latest. So I guess we'll see what happens on Monday. In the meantime I will continue with my CBEFM and doing the BD a few times just in case. Chat Icon I will keep you all posted!! Hoping for an early Xmas present!! Chat Icon Next update - Monday!!

UPDATE #3 (Monday 7:40am) - Just got back from my RE appt. Grrrrrrr!!! Stupid follies!!! NO change since Thursday although, part of me is not surprised since I do always ovulate late and I am only on CD17. I just thought the Clomid would've moved things along faster this cycle. Going back on Thursday to check my status yet again. So annoying!! I won't give up hope yet. The doctor I saw today said if nothing changes on Thursday we will start a new cycle and I said nope. No way. I am waiting it out until at least CD24. When I got pregnant with my DD I went in for a sono and there was nothing going on and my dr. said to come back in 2 days just for one last check before moving on because you never know. Well, good thing we did because I went from nothing going on to a fully mature egg in 2 days and 9 months later I had my DD. (and that was CD24 I had that egg) So when I mentioned that today to them they said, "Oh, okay. Whatever you think is best then. We will wait it out". Chat Icon I will keep you posted. Next update - Thursday.

UPDATE #4 (Thursday 9am) - Went back to the RE again on Thursday........updating late because of Xmas craziness!! Chat Icon Anyway, I still have a bunch of follies on both sides that are less than 10mm. I do however finally have a dominant follie that is measurable. Greater than 10mm. So, I am headed back to the RE yet again on Sunday morning to have another sono and see if anything with that follie changes. I am hoping like crazy it will have grown enough to trigger. I am getting frustrated now because I am on CD22 today (Saturday) and still have just a HIGH reading on the CBEFM. My last 2 cycles I ovulated on CD24 and then CD22. Hopefully this cycle isn't a bust. I will be so upset if it is. My doctor did put in my file (as per my request) to monitor this cycle until at least CD26 before moving ahead to another cycle. Guess we'll see what happens. Fingers crossed. Will update again on Sunday. Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! Chat Icon

UPDATE #5 (Sunday 9am) - Have many follies less than 10mm still and one measurable one at 11mm. Going back on Wednesday and if there is no considerable change at that point we're moving on to a new cycle because by then I will be on CD26. Hopefully something will happen, ya never know!! Next update on Wednesday!!

UPDATE #6 (Wednesday 10:30am) - This is the cycle that never ends!! LOL I am on CD26. Now........I have one follie at 12mm, one at 11mm, and another one on the left side at 10mm. So I guess there is progress as I have 3 follies moving along instead of 1. I am waiting for my blood results. If my estrogen levels are still increasing and they are above 70 we are going to continue to wait it out and monitor this cycle. If my estrogen levels decrease or stay the same I will start another round of Clomid right away, 100mg. for 5 days and then we start the monitoring again for a new cycle. What is interesting is the RE said I don't need Provera to bring on AF prior to moving to another cycle. He said you don't need AF to move on, just take the Clomid and monitor for ovulation again. Pretty cool.........saves some days. So that is where I am at. Will update later with blood results. If everything looks good my next appt. will be on Saturday.

UPDATE again for Wednesday - Got the blood work back. No change in estrogen levels. Starting Clomid (100mg) today and going back to the RE on Wednesday.

UPDATE #7 (Wednesday 7:30am) - FINALLY after weeks and weeks of monitoring and another round of Clomid last week (100mg) I have FOUR mature follies. I have two follies measuring 15mm, one measuring 16.5mm, and the one measuring 20mm. Because it was a Clomid cycle they want the eggs to mature just another day or two so.............................Friday is my trigger shot and Saturday is my IUI!!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I am SOOOOOOOO excited!!!! With any luck I will be pregnant VERY soon. When I got pregnant with my DD I had one 20mm egg and one IUI and VOILA!!!.........9 months later and the rest is history. I hope I get lucky twice and this all works out. I will keep everyone posted. Next update on Friday. Wish me luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

UPDATE #8 (Friday 7:30am) - GREAT NEWS!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon We are a GO for IUI!!! I had another sono today and I have 3 really good eggs. (17.5mm, and two at 21mm) Chat Icon Chat Icon I had my trigger shot this morning so I am *technically* ovulating now. I go in Saturday morning for the IUI at 10am!!!! I am SOOOOOOOO excited!!!! If this takes my DD and her new sibling will be EXACTLY 2 years 1 week apart! Perfect......just what I wanted!!! I am so flippin' excited!!! I will update you on how the IUI went although I am sure there will be nothing that exciting to say. Chat Icon After tomorrow morning I will officially be in the 2WW!! Lots of Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon to me!!! Thanks for all the support girls as I've been back and forth updating! Chat Icon Chat Icon

UPDATE #9 (Saturday 10:45am) - FINAL update for now.............IUI is done and I am officially in the 2WW!! The RE said my DH gave a "VERY good sample" so I am hoping it all works out!! So excited but dreading the next few days. The waiting is the worst part. Hopefully my next update will be a BFP!!! Wish me luck and thanks again for all the support these past few weeks. Thanks! Chat Icon They gave me Clomid on CD3-7 to help the luteal phase defect. That being said though, I am specifically asking them to start me on progesterone supplements as soon as I find out I am pregnant or if possible, as soon as I have the IUI. I had VERY low progesterone levels when I was pregnant with my DD even on the supplements (my number was always around 12) so this time around I would like to start the supplements sooner. It was so stressful in those first few weeks of pregnancy knowing I had such low #'s.

New here....What's a luteal phase defect?

Your luteal phase is the length of time between when you ovulate and when AF arrives. A typical, healthy LP is 12-14 days. If it's less than that you are considered to have a LP defect which means your uterine lining starts breaking down before it is suppose to thus making pregnancy harder to achieve or sustain a pregnancy if you do conceive. Many times a LPD will cause a miscarriage. Typical treatment for a LPD is Clomid which will help to lengthen your LP thus making it easier to get pregnant and sustain that pregnancy. Chat Icon

BELOW IS SOME MORE INFO Chat Icon

What is a Luteal Phase Defect or LPD?
Luteal Phase Defect

A luteal phase is the time in a woman’s cycle between ovulation and menstruation. In a pregnant woman, during the luteal phase the fertilized egg will travel from the fallopian tube and into the uterus for implantation. The luteal phase is normally 14 days long and on an average it can be anywhere from 10 to 17 days long. If your luteal phase lasts anything under 10 days it is considered a luteal phase defect. But some doctors believe that if the luteal phase falls under 12 days, then it is a problem. If you conceive and you have a luteal phase defect, you will have an early miscarriage.

A luteal phase defect cannot sustain a pregnancy because the uterine lining in these women begins to break down, bringing on the menstrual bleeding and causing an early miscarriage. There could be more than one reason for the luteal phase defect which can be found out after medical analysis. Going by statistics, the number one reason for a luteal phase defect is low progesterone levels. Your doctor can do a progesterone test on you 7 days past ovulation to determine exactly how deficient you are. Once you know that there are several ways of correcting this defect.
Causes of Luteal Phase Defect

The three main causes of luteal phase defect include poor follicle production, premature demise of the corpus luteum, and failure of the uterine lining to respond to normal levels of progesterone. These problems occur at different times during the cycle but can also be found in conjunction with each other.

1. Poor follicle production occurs in the first half of the cycle. In this case, the woman may not produce a normal level of FSH, or her ovaries do not respond strongly to the FSH, leading to inadequate follicle development. Because the follicle ultimately becomes the corpus luteum, poor follicle formation leads to poor corpus luteum quality. In turn, a poor corpus luteum will produce inadequate progesterone, causing the uterine lining to be adequately prepared for the implantation of a fertilized embryo. Ultimately progesterone levels may drop early and menses will arrive sooner than expected resulting in luteal phase defect.
2. Premature failure of the corpus luteum can occur even when the initial quality of the follicle/corpus luteum is adequate. In some women the corpus luteum sometimes does not persist as long as it should. Here, initial progesterone levels at five to seven days past ovulation may be low; even if they are adequate, the levels drop precipitously soon thereafter, again leading to early onset of menses and hence a luteal phase defect.
3. Failure of the uterine lining to respond can occur even in the presence of adequate follicle development and a corpus luteum that persists for the appropriate length of time. In this condition, the uterine lining does not respond to normal levels of progesterone. Therefore, if an embryo arrives and tries to implant in the uterus, the uterine lining will not be adequately prepared, and the implantation will most likely fail.

Correction of Luteal Phase Defect

Fertility charting is an easy way of detecting whether you have luteal phase defect. If you do, don’t worry because luteal phase defect can be easily corrected. Immediately seek the advice of your physician first before starting any treatments to correct it. In most case, luteal phase defect can be corrected through over-the-counter remedies and/or with prescription drugs.

1. Over the counter remedies for luteal phase defect:
The two main over the counter remedies for luteal phase defect are vitamin B6 and progesterone cream. Vitamin B6 is perfectly safe and can be taken daily in dosages from 50 mg to 200 mg. Taking vitamin B6 every day during the entire month will help to lengthen the luteal phase.

A progesterone cream is usually targeted for menopausal women; however this cream is also useful in lengthening the luteal phase. A cream with natural progesterone works best. Use about 1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon of progesterone cream spread on the inner arm, inner thigh, neck, and chest - alternating places - twice a day from ovulation to menstruation or until the 10th week of pregnancy.

2. Prescription drugs for luteal phase defect:
The most common prescription drugs for luteal phase defect patients are Clomid or progesterone suppositories. Clomid is taken orally as prescribed by the doctor. The suppositories are taken through the vagina after ovulation has occurred and until either day 14 post ovulation or at some point weeks later during a pregnancy, if pregnancy occurred.

Re: Off to the RE.............(UPDATE #3)

Now this makes me think, How do you count LP if using OPK? For example in November I used CBEOPK and got smiley November 6, got period on November 23. Do you count O as the 6th or the 8th since OPK gives a window? This month ran out of OK from CBE and used generic OPK got positive OPK December 11 think AF due the 24th.

A positive on the OPK indicates you will ovulate within the next 24-36 hrs. so I would count 1DPO on Nov. 8 and go forward from there so if you got AF on the 23rd you would have roughly a 15 day LP which is perfectly normal. Chat Icon When I use my CBEFM I always count 1DPO after my 2 PEAK readings. When it drops back to a HIGH reading I count that as 1DPO.
